On those wheels, at my rink, I'd never stop. LOL Actually...I don't think I'd even be able to get moving, they'd slip too much when I'd try to push off! We're lucky if the rink is ever swept, let alone anything else done to it. So, as I've said before, I often slide in my 78A's! Especially on humid days. Ahh...water + wood...what a lovely combo. :) On the other hand, I did manage to luck out! Last night as a matter of fact. Tried to order the Sure-Grip Purple Prism indoor skates (I LOVE the darker purple of them versus the lighter purple of the outdoor version)...anyway, there were NONE left in my size and since they're a limited edition, of course, no more are being made. At the rink last night...the manager was unboxing skates, I sat down, my girls and I wrote our request list....I took it up...and saw the Holy Grail sitting on the desk in the office. One purple pair, one pink pair. All I could do was stare. As soon as she put them out, I asked what the sizes were. She asked if I wanted to try them on. After swearing not to get ANOTHER purple pair of skates....I tried on the purples. They were MY SIZE!!!!! She may have had them on display for all of 2 minutes before I grabbed them up. LOL Going to be weird getting used to the 95A's on them, but I've already got them almost set to how I like my trucks and the height of the toe stops. The skates look cool in the pictures online and at the rink, but in person? They're equally amazingly beautiful AND brilliantly obnoxious! :) Due to them being vinyl and vegan-friendly, they are extremely stiff, but that's to be expected of vinyl boots, of course. Plan on getting the Volcanic wheels for them, just to make them even *more* obnoxious. Now I'm just debating on if I should skate them Saturday or if I should wait until I get the Volcanic wheels..... (P.S. I don't think I'm going to make it until the Volcanic wheels come in...probably will have to break them out Saturday. At least for a few laps around, you know, just to make sure the trucks and stops are truly set to my liking. LOL) :)

Finally used these puppies at the rink!!! Lots of things to keep in mind... They slide like ice skates, so, gotta start slow and prepare your stop about 5 feet ahead... I changed out mid sesh... 😂🤣🤣🤣stopped with urethanes when I wanted to, then I changed mid sesh...I saw where I wanted to stop, slide on by, as I waved hello/goodbye to my wife!!! When I went to push off, my leg slid out from under me!!! I changed mid sesh, after I heard that sound from another skater... Floor guard and another skater... They cut me off by hockey stopping in front of me, causing me to redirect into the short wall!!!! After I came to a smashing halt, I took off again. I noticed everyone kept looking back at me like, "where is that sound coming from?". ... As They check in with their friend... "Do you hear that?". Had I not seen this previously, I wouldn't had known what that sound of the other skater was, but I immediately looked at their wheels, cause I knew, instead of looking around like, y'all hear that?

Super informative as always. I'd like to recommend getting a lav mic for audio. I'm someone who has a hard time picking up conversation and words over background noise and it was super hard for me to understand the words in this audio because of it. A lav mic would help to isolate the audio better and you would be able to describe the technique without being as close to the camera.

Hey I love your videos so much, you're an amazing teacher! I just got back into skating this week, having only skated before as a kid. One thing ive notoced nowadays is that i dont know much about all the different kinds of wheels (sizes, materials, etc), bearings, truck tightness (or whatever its called), indoor vs outdoor wheels, etc. Could you possibly do a video explaining some of those differences to beginners? I went to a skate shop to get "outdoor" wheels for my skates thinking there wasn't much of a difference between skateboarding wheels and roller skate wheels...and I couldn't have been more wrong lol. Any info to point me in the right direction would be amazing! There aren't any roller skating shops near me so I would have to buy online...im kinda afraid I might buy something that won't fit right on my skates, or won't work well for what I want to use my skates for.

First off, thanks for the videos! They’re helping me learn some techniques for sure. Speaking of wheels, I was at the rink last night with my outdoor wheels, and I was practicing braiding/cruising crossing over my left leg, and my wheels hit each other, stopped me, and I fell forward and busted my knees up. Definitely a lesson learned about wearing protective gear indoors, but my question is, do you think this would have happened with either a hybrid or indoor wheel? I think it’s the gumminess of the wheels that did it, and of course having my feet too close together. Any tips to avoid this in the future? This was my first major spill, and it sucked. My knees hurt so bad today.
@Dirtydeborahharry
@Dirtydeborahharry 5 жыл бұрын
Outdoor wheels are not really meant for skating at the rink. They are too gummy and do not provide enough slide. So … get some legit indoor wheels.

Geeze your turns are so smooth. I skate in a gym about four times a week about one hour and I know I'm getting better but can't wait to get that smooth turn you have or at least close to it whereas I'm going forward than transcend backwards and keep skating smooth, so far I wobble soon as I start my turn and I know it's me and my buddy "fear", but I see it's getting better because I have yet to hit the floor. Patience.

Hi Dirty, I'm getting in to rhythm skating and when the rinks reopen I really wanna practice some more. I would like to get myself some Suregrip Los Angeles which have no toestop receiver. Can you explain if there is any difference between this and running with a jam plug? I notice you have no toe stop receiver on your skates in this video! It looks like fun. Thanks for your awesome videos.

I have skates with toe stops and I have skates without. Look for the Century NTS plate if you want no toe stop at all. The other plates, that allow a toe stop, are versatile. You can use a regular toe stop or a plug. If you use a jam plug, you have the best of both worlds.

Deborah, planetrollerskate.shop offers two sizes. What would determine which size (original at 50mm or the smaller 48mm) to purchase?

Could you possibly do some of these tuturials outdoors? I realize roller rinks floors are nothing like the ground outdoors.

So, I understand some people don't wear toe stops for some styles of skating, but it really seems like they would be useful with wheels like these.

Toe stops are great for some jumps and spins and of course stopping. They do interfere though when sliding.

Hey I have a question for you- Do the fiberglass wheels scratch or damage the wood floors? One of the rinks in my area doesn't allow them for that reason but I don't know if that's true. What are your thoughts?

Fibers are sometimes modified to be smaller in diameter and that can have the kingpin nut riding very low to the ground. During some slides, tricks ... the nut can cut a groove in the floor. The hardness of the wheel can also wear a groove into the soft maple and cause damage. Once that happens, the damaged area needs to be sanded, filled and sealed. If that doesn't work, the damaged piece needs to be cut out, replaced, sanded and sealed. This all takes time and money. We incur damage to our floor frequently.

Over the past year I’ve watched videos of people skating on these sliders. When they skate backwards they slow down/ stop by placing their front foot in front of the skating leg at an angle.It sort of looks like a reversed t-stop. What is the name of that stop?

I’m trying to get into fibers. They are very popular where I’m at. But what’s a good wheel to start with. I have velvet wheels and not enough slide.
