I literally saw Em dining out, and didn't attempt to talk to him, because of this song, lol. I gave him a "what's up" nod, and he returned it. Then I paid our bill, and left. The "they think I'm some wigger who just tries to be black" part was inspired by Howard Stern, who interviewed Eminem in 1999 after his debut single "My Name Is" came out and spent the while time asking him when he started "talking black", if he grew up in the hood, etc. It was obvious he thought Eminem was a novelty act like Vanilla Ice.

Some people "listen" to music and some people "feel" music and these two are perfect examples with Brad being a "listener" and Lex definitely someone who "feels" it. I say this after watching many, many of their reaction videos and it was verified by how Brad described why he listened to the music he did when he was younger. Good stuff!
@SeeJayPlayGames2 жыл бұрын
I'd wager that Brad couldn't simply learn how to stop "listening" and focusing on lyrics and let go and relax and ride the snake to the lake. Unless he took some shrooms... then maybe that would open up his 3rd eye... or not. Might scare him. Now Lex, I wouldn't want her to stop feeling it, but maybe some vocal focal wouldn't be a bad idea every once in a while. After all of the music they've sampled, you would think some musical knowledge would have seeped in through osmosis, and some has... but a little formal musical training might help make the vocabulary when discussing composition or hooks or whatever... knowledge never hurt anyone. Maybe watch 12tone. Get an instrument. Learn to play something on it. I could see Brad on drums and Lex on guitar.

This song is legendary, not only for Eminem but also in the rap industry and music in general. The beat, flow, delivery..... wow.... It is one of the most important songs in the album back then, and till today it is so iconic. Eminem made a collab with Nike Air Jordan and also released sneaker limited edition Air Jordan 2 The Way I am, and recently he released hoodies and t-shirts. If eminem had a theme including the 10 or 20 better and biggest songs this one would be there. Portugal here for the Goat Eminem always since day one and forever. Thanks for reacting. Salutes Ps: Yes it is Marilyn Manson in the video, the real one and Eminem played his caracter in the My Name Is music video. M. MANSON was so controversial back then too and everyone were balming artists like him, Eminem etc saying they were bad influences for the youth. Yeah, it was a reference to Columbine. They were Manson fans, and the media went hard trying to blame him. And no, Charles Manson was around long before Marilyn Manson. 😀 But his stage name is based on Marilyn Monroe and Charles Manson. “The best and worse of the 60’s,” is how he explained it. This is one of Em’s classics. And for you younger folks, he was by far the biggest celebrity on the planet at that time. And before streaming services, if you weren’t inline the morning it came out, you weren’t getting it for a week or more. Yeah, a big part of understanding '90s/2000s Eminem and rock/metal is remembering how many manufactured boy bands and girl groups we were surrounded by; they dominatd the charts. If you were lonely/angry/going through some shit, pop had nothing to offer back then (whereas now, at least some harder rap and metal gets played on mainstream radio...I think?) Eminem spoke out directly against how meaningless pop was, it was great, and of course he got hate and backlash for it, so he spoke out against that too. :)

important background context: this was the last song Em made for the album. before recording this song, the record exec's pushed back that Em didn't yet have a pop single like "My Name Is" from his debut album. he hated this pressure and push-back to be told how to make songs. this explains the lyric at the beginning of the song, "I can't top what My Name Is"

Man, old Em is some of the best rap out there.. I could be a little biased because I grew up listening to this stuff. 'Just Don't Give a Fuck' is another good one you should check out.

Still don’t give a fuck is so much better. I personally can’t listen to just don’t give a fuck, the weird high pitched beat makes it impossible to listen to with headphones. Good lyrics overthrown by a trash beat
@joehynes54523 жыл бұрын
Album was finished and the record label said he needed another song, another hit like "My Name Is" to really sell it. Em said, ok, penned this song on the spot, created and produced the beat himself, then recorded it in one take and quite possibly made the best song in his catalog as a giant FU to the execs and anyone else pressuring him. Pure Brilliance!! Btw, Columbine shooting was 1998, this was released in 2000

Beautiful People by Marilyn Manson is a good song. Tainted Love is also good. But yeah, back when Way I Am was released it was the emo and goth era too and all the dark, satanic aura of it all got just as much heat as the rappers like Eminem did. This is back when Fox News was seriously going after things that like Grand Theft Auto and rappers etc. They had so much more power back then.

Their thoughts on things that fans already know is hilarious. Charles Manson probably took his name from Marilyn Manson lmao. Classic keep it up.

Music is more than just relieving stress, its a emotional regulator that can affect your physical well being too. Music to relieve stress can be both calm or really aggressive, but aggressive music will raise your heartrate while calm music will lower it.

There's a good story behind this song too, I don't remember it all that well though. But it was something like this : The Label wanted him to record another song like "My Name Is" because they thought that it will blow up again like the original. Wanted him to do something "pop-ish" I guess. But he was so pissed off about it and all the controversy that was circling him at that time, that he recorded this song instead. And he wrote it on the way to the studio too I guess. Song go hard AF 🔥

Shout out to manson in the video. Em and manson back in the day like late 90s and early 00s were the 2 reigning kings of shock in the music industry. So it was cool to see their kinship.

Ok that’s it. Y’all need to react to Marilyn Manson. Start with “ this is the new sh*t”, and “beautiful people”

I second the beautiful people. I was country /bluegrass back before country went pop/rap. Certain music crosses lines. Rage against the machine, Dr Dre the chronic album, bob marley legend album, Queen and all the way back in the mid 80's BEASTIE BOYS...one of the pillars hip hop is built upon.

Make sure you do the uncensored version oh “this is the new sh*t”. Don’t do the one that says “this is the new “hit” “

I agree, it's an anthem. my "leave me the fuck alone" moments are when I have my headphones on. it's my own escape from the real world. my favorite thing about this song is how he doesn't sugarcoat anything and also how pissed he sounds. you should check out Marilyn Manson. I'd suggest The Beautiful People 😊

This song came out after Columbine. He was referencing Columbine, because that school is in A VERY affluent neighborhood. So Eminem was saying... "And look where it's at! Middle America, now it's a tragedy Now it's so sad to see, an upper-class city. Havin' this happenin." This song hit do hard!
