Slim Rack Slide Out Encoder Circuit Test

Had a customer come in with a slim rack slide out that wouldn’t move. When we tried to reset the stop points it would not work. This was a manual stop point system. We noticed the plastic blocks on one side were broken. So I replaced the broken parts and still couldn’t reset the stop points. I called tech support and they were leaning toward a power issue which I knew it was not. I got some service docs and checking the encoder circuit made sense to me. And, after the fact it really made sense. The stop points can’t reset if the encoder circuit is not working. This video is on testing that circuit. If you have AC volts at the motor then you probably have a wire issue. I had motor issues and replacing both of them fixed it.

I am having a slim rack issue at the moment and this is exactly the information I need to test what is wrong. Throwing parts at this is just way too expensive, thank you for this video it is very helpful. Edit: saved me a bunch, motor was good short to ground was my problem

Can I use a typical volt multimeter?

Not sure what a typical volt meter is, but I think any meter that can read AC voltage should work. I typically use fluke meters and don’t have very much experience with other brands. Hope that helps.
