The Sling TSi is a lot of plane for the money. It would be really interesting if Rotax came out with a modern FADEC ~300 hp turbo flat six so companies like The Airplane Factory could offer Bonanza-class kits.

I don't think you even need that much horsepower to cruise at 175-180 knots

More power is always a good thing. It's safer to have more than you need. And faster is always better.

6 or 6 plus a midget..sorry little person...and 300shp in an experimental...cool. but a Turbine will do that better and with cheaper fuel. And you think Textron would give up that billion dollar market......not likely... If you want flight levels and class c space...a lightly used Lear 31 is your best answer...and if you can't fit the family in that...go BD601 series...sure the inspections maintenence and cost per hour is up there...but man do you get respect at the ramp!! - and if properly structured your total expense and depreciation on it is before tax dollars--read:Saving your corporation paying tax on those dollars- and I'll take either of those over a dentist killer or a Kennedy drowner any day; )

I understand from several sources that the turbo 915 has been de-tune down ti the 140 HP. Is this true and if so when will the software and interface be available to the GA public,
@andrewmorris3479

SirMasterJoe 145 HP on the dyno, but Rotax calls it 141 HP to be conservative.

The 915 was developed for the US military drone program. I would assume that the military version is more powerful but good luck getting that tune. I've heard that the military version operates at 30,000ft but I don't know how heavy the drones are. This TSi has been up to 23,000ft and I know they are looking to get to as close to 30,000ft as they can when they go to Oshkosh in July.

kevin butler Yeah, the Aquila aircraft they have this engine in for their testbed made it up to 32,000ft with no issue.

I don't see a need for fl300 out of this airplane unless you enjoy mask marks on your cheeks after three or four hours, Or you intend to get run over by a heavy at that level in a death wish lawsuit kind of death wish. Speak to any go fast fighter pilot that has had his RV8 all metal do not exceed 205 kts up beyond 18000 and start exceeding limits very quickly without realizing...shit I could die doing this!! The greatest part about flying is natural selection process when men want to push a 1400pd airplane where it has no business being. I doubt anyone in the prior category of ownership has a prostate that can last 900 nautical miles at 12,000 feet. Yeah...I can drive a Nissan micra Los Angeles to New York or a Honda fit Seattle to Miami. .....but do you want too?!? More Vans have flown around the world than these guys have sold..and every cross country vans owner I have talked too said the same thing....yeah..it can go 5 hours at a stretch...but I can not! To really go cross country...you need 200kts..and 5 hours of fuel...300 kts is better...but you already new that..hahah

@@richardloveday1092 I agree with you 100 percent. What I am looking for is the power to u go high when I need to.but also have excellent STOL performance along with a nice comfortable cruise speed. 150 to 200 would be great. . I plan on flying in h Alaskan mountains for the sole purpose of fishing. I know I can get a carbon cub for between 200 and 300 k but I can' afford one an at 150 its a bit slower hen I wan to go when I am in cross country mode. I is funny you mention Nissan in your reply. one of he engines I am considering is a Nissan RB26. In i'ts stock it pushes out about 260 HP and with a turbo and some other cheap mods it will pump out 1000 HP. also some speed tuners I have talked to, say you can get that to 1200 HP. Although you would have to pay someone to build custom engine mounts and you would need to build in some redundancy to various systems. The up side is hat I can buy a decent running engine for about 600 bucks. which is a far cry from 30 k for the turbo fuel injected Rotax if i was around 250 HP it would make a great engine. What I will most likely do is go with he Nissan and keep the engine stock and see what it will do, then add then add a turbo if i is needed that should give me around 600 HP. If everything was stable a this point hen add he turbo.hat will allow me o cay myself and one passenger and a lot of fishing an camping gear, The only real problem I see is he weigh of he engine. I may be unseasonable just because o he engine weight. I am actually just kicking hings around things in my head so who knows what "I will settle down with,

the constant speed prop with the 915 is a BIG deal Is this the single lever control, throttle and prop in one?
@Raladic
@Raladic 5 жыл бұрын
No, the prop control is mounted in the panel, but it works by having pre-configures settings for takeoff, cruise and co (and a manual override), so it greatly simplifies the prop control.
@pilotavery
@pilotavery Жыл бұрын
You can set the prop mode with a four position switch. Once you said it to that mode it's basically automatic though, because It will adjust automatically for climb mode or cruise mode. It will also automatically feather. Also, if you're in cruise mode and you bump the throttle to full it will still increase the RPM a bit to get your max power. It's almost full fadec, except you manually set each mode for the behavior of the prop
