Combining the renowned Sling handling with the classic high wing design is a brilliant move, promising both practicality and fuel efficiency. A few other things; in a low-wing, when you're taxiing in that bubble canopy, it becomes very hot very quickly under the summer sun. High-wing offers a bit of a shade, and you can safely open doors while moving on the ground. One more bit; when you land somewhere in the rain, you can open your doors, step out of the aircraft and open your umbrella while standing under your wings. The wing also offers a nice shade when you're sitting under it in a folding chair, parked near the flight line in Oshkosh.

Rent, don't buy. Or buy the old plane and finance it for 10y to lower the payment. Get one that is way nice and maintained, it will be more expensive than you would normally consider but it will probably save you $10s of thou$ands of dollars in annuals and repairs. It's possible to put $50,000 into an old $20,000 airplane and have it still be un-airworthy. But if you buy a $80,000 plane in the first place, it might fair a lot better. The payments are actually pretty low. Once it's paid off it will be worth the same or more than you paid, and that's a huge chunk toward a new plane.

Is it not possible to remove the back seat in a Sling Tsi (low wing) if you need extra cargo space? If removing and installing on a regular bases is not easy, what about just not installing it when you build it if you don't think you'd need it and would rather have more cargo space?

Well, at least that's an HONEST price assessment. When I ran your TSi numbers, I came up with $275,000 not including your flights back and forth from GA to CA. But, you did 'load it up' with all of the options, didn't skimp on the interior layout, nor avionics. I can understand why the carbon fibre, glass work, etc. is more expensive, and, I sincerely believe that the aircraft is exceptionally well designed for appropriate loading, safe flight envelope with neutral handling characteristics while remaining 'sporty'. The Rotax 915is is the basis for the capabilities of this aircraft- another well engineered product being maximized by the airframe. I'd seriously consider it if I had that large of a budget and I would consider builder assist as a MUST instead of a want. Otherwise, it would end up as $165,000 thrown out the window... I just have the ability to turn parts into an airplane without direction & assistance!

Most folks think about a kit build so they can afford to get into aviation. $350k is likely outside their budget for a home let alone a "hobby". There is a point way before this number where a nice, proven Cessna 182 with steam gauge six pack is viable even with the additional A&P maintenance costs. Interesting that it's a composite, I had forgotten that. I have no love for high wing but composite is so much better than titanic revival. And since it's composite, isn't it vastly easier to build? so ultimate price could be lower than the TSI. I assume there is no composite work to be done for the buyer. As for being cheap, 300 grand plus a year of walking your people through the desert (biblical reference :) that's just not cheap in any world when fully built LSAs can cost 160grand. There is a sharp disconnect there. Sling needs to go pure composite for all their planes and certify them so they can be factory built. DIY is just dead end nickel and dime stuff. And presumably a simple composite design should be so simple that it should be very doable to get certified. 22 years ago Cirrus was a kit builder with an 80% fatality rate in their planes. And today they have jets. GA needs to get past kit building. Seriously. Imagine someone going to the VW factories and spending a year building a jetta and paying 300 grand for it. It really is that bad.
