..You are doing the homebuilt community a solid here. Calm, even, fair-to-a-fault, manufacturer and model build assessment. The Airplane Factory may be going through growing pains, but they'd be fools of they didn't pay attention to your build. Yours is the ONLY amature-built Sling of any model posted on You Tube that isn't majority commercial assist-built. The Airplane Factory should cut you a check for sorting out their "growing pain" flaws.

Thanks man. They’re going through some growing pains with the popularity of the TSi for sure but I think they’re aware of it. I’m sure they’ll be all caught up and have everything fixed perfectly... right about the time I finish my build haha. In the mean time I’m glad people are getting some benefit from what I’m doing

Your mannerisms and professionalism, attention to detail ... remind me of my A&P instructor. A great man I admired all around. Great work.

Once again Evan, you are demonstrating the qualitative benefits of a robust steady careful build process. No wonder you are so successful and achieve exceptional results! Great inspirational VLOG.

Very interesting video, Evan. Your videos make it possible for the guys past the age of starting an aircraft to experience modern kit building processes, including the gotchas along with the successes. Looking forward to next week's installment, but not to your finishing your project! 😉

I agree that's acrylic, but clear polypropylene does exist. The lab I work in has clear polypropylene centrifuge tubes. It's slightly cloudy when compared to polystyrene, but not nearly as brittle.

True building techniques. These idea should be in the manufacture manual. Good job!

Evan, as usual, great attention to the quality of your workmanship. However, I sense a continued frustration with the Sling components that you are working with (that came with the kit).

I admire your work on the Sling TSi and am daydreaming of the day I would jump into the Sling TSi build project. But... wiring of avionics and electronics...that scares me because all I know about electricity is what I learned in high school many decades ago. I have been wondering what level of electrical knowledge is needed?
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
Hoon Chung there are companies who can provide you plug and play avionics/electrical systems. Although there are tons of wires, it’s a task you can tackle yourself with time and careful planning as well. I took a middle road and didn’t get the full plug and play system, but had my harness made by midwest Skysports, so all I really had to do was plug it all in. Cable management was the hardest part for me, but that’s just a matter of taking your time and making things fit cleanly.

Hey new to the experimental world..do have to get the FAA to inspect each section like the wing and fuselage etc..or once you complete the build you have the FAA look over the plane before it’s considered airworthy?..the sling looks amazing btw!
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
Thanks man, in America the FAA inspects the plane at the end for airworthiness. You usually use a DAR, designated airworthiness representative, who is a third party who represents the FAA to do the inspection. In other countries the inspector does do inspections along the way at kind of milestone steps. Before you put the skins on, before you put the wings on, etc.

In watching several of your videos, it's apparent you are extremely careful and attentive to details. However, it's also apparent that the manufacturer is constantly causing you problems. I'm comparing an RV-10 to the Sling TSi and your videos are having an influence.
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
The TSi even with the factory delays can be built faster than the -10, so the factory delays aren’t that bad when you’re comparing the two builds. The factory is having some growing pains with the explosive popularity of the TSi, and I’ve seen some positive changes recently so hopefully that gets it resolved

Are you planning to modify a "fresnel lighting system" ? ... the last 20% of the build takes 80% of the time...

Wow, I am NOT impressed by this company! Surely, it is not acceptable, or normal, to be sent wrong, and poor quality, cut-to-fit parts. Future buyers of used Slings beware..
@EvanBrunye4 жыл бұрын
Windows and composite parts will be sent for the builder to cut and fit on all kits that I am aware of. It's because of very small differences from plane to plane during the build process. Cutting them to fit allows the plane to be completed with more precision than say a 1-2mm misalignment due to the variability from build to build. That being said, the company is definitely going through some growing pains with the explosive popularity of their TSi kit. The demand was heavy and immediate, and they weren't prepared. As long as builders are diligent and focused it's not too big of an issue. The factory is working very hard to correct the production issues, and I have faith they will get through these growing pains and produce great kits. Keep in mind, I am mostly pointing out issues so other builders and viewers can be aware and watch out for certain things. The only issue I have had that was truly problematic was a long wait for canopy hinges. This was due in part to the Covid nonsense, but even with that aside the wait was too long. What I don't point out, and maybe I should put more emphasis on it, is how well made the other 90% of the kit truly is. Also keep in mind my kit for this particular plane was one of the very early kits to be manufactured and shipped out. The factory has been making a few changes to the areas I ran into trouble with, and newer kits are being shipped with these changes incorporated. From what I've seen they're hugely beneficial to builders. Hope this might help clear up some of your concern!
