Slinger Tennis Bag & Ball Launcher - 1 Year Review

Here's my 1 year review of Slinger Bag; a portable tennis ball launcher that I backed on Kickstarter. I received the bag in the spring of 2020 and have used it consistently since. Watch the video to hear my thoughts and what it's like to live with.

Great review. My motor broke after 9 months of use but Slinger was nice enough to replace it free of charge. I don't know how folks can use that auto-feeder. I find myself rushing my servers since I know the next ball is coming soon lol.

Still good, no issues, I never take the car so the bag always does the same route to the courts that you see in the video.

It is less heavy than basically all the other ball machines, I can't understand why you drag it on a rather long walk instead of putting it in the boot. I have had the Slingerbag since last August and although its size and weight is not negligible, it is not that bad. For me, its week point is the oscillator that does not work reliably and it takes 5-6 balls to get from one direction to the other, so basically after 2-3 forehands you get to hit 2-3 backhands, etc. It is also very difficult to practice volleys because there is no way to shoot a fast and flat ball. If it is fast, the top spin is too heavy. Still, for the price it is fantastic tool.

How do you find the battery is over time? does it still give the 5 hours suggested game time.

Haven't noticed any noticeable dropoff, even with not much use over the winter.

Thanks for the review, good to see a non tennis coach reviewing the bag. I wish I'd seen the Kickstarter, but stopped looking at that place after one too many failed project/lost cash. It's now £795 (or £885 with 72 balls). Would you pay that for it?

I don't think I could afford to pay that for what is essentially a suit case with a ball laucher built in. The balls are pretty good quality that come with it and haven't lost their bounce in now over a year of having it. I'd keep looking on ebay and see if one comes up cheaper on there, it's worth having the oscillating accessory, the ball collecting tube you can probably buy better at decathlon.

After 6 months of using the slinger bag, I’m very disappointed in the performance of this slinger ball machine. Balls are always getting stuck, somewhere, in the machine. I have go inside the machine and retrieve the stuck balls, n e where from 3 - 7 balls, which really affects the machine performance. I use the machine daily, at the highest speed/feed rates. I also charge it each night. The balls, which r new/fairly new, never come out at the same speed/ distance now, as they did when I first started using the machine 6 months ago. The machine make funny noises, as well, when in use. C s just says what I’m experiencing is b/ c my tennis balls aren’t as new as they were when I first started using the slinger. Now, many of the tennis balls rarely make it to net , when I use the slinger from the baseline, and those they do come over the net, often land at the service line, with a few balls coming to near the baseline. The balls come out at different distances. Unlike, initially, when I started using the slinger 6 months ago, the balls come out at different distances. There’s no consistency in the ball trajectory. It’s very difficult now to hit a consistent number of balls b/c of this problem. I usually platy with 60-65 balls. Slinger recommends that u use no more than a max of 70 balls, even though the machine capacity is 144 balls. I’m still in conversation with slinger c s regarding these issues I’ve been having with their ball machine. They’re very hesitant, I m o, to replace this machine, even though it’s still under warranty. I’m not too pleased with the performance of the slinger ball machine, after 6 months of use

I think having the slinger positioned on or just behind the service line is optimal. If you have it firing from the baseline you're always going to be at the extreme of the settings to get the balls to you. Just my opinion and experience.

@@DaveDoesUK Thanks, but my point is, I’ve never had these issues with the slinger, when I first started using it. The machine isn’t performing the way it was initially, when I bought it 6 months ago. Slinger just blames it on the balls, which r fairly new… still lots of fuzz on them. The machine just isn’t functioning as it did, when I first purchased it. I’m not a happy camper with the slinger machine , nor the c s

@@anthonybush6391 Maybe you're just using it more than I am, I do get the occasional ball jam like you, maybe happens to me once or twice per 2 hour session, sometimes doesn't happen at all mind. I've not experienced any inconsistency though with the supplied balls. If I add other balls to the mix then it definitely adds inconsistency, I put this down to the balls being older or newer than the majority in the hopper.
