Slingshot UFO | Strutless Kite review

Today we tested the Slingshot UFO, the new strutless kite from Slingshot. One of the lightest kites on the market. Lightness is HOT in kitesurfing World 2020. Where does the lightness come from? Material, Construction or both? Well, with the Slingshot UFO it's all about the construction. No struts means less material means lighter kites. So time to test the kite characteristics of the new Slingshot UFO!

3m 993 grams 5m 1310 grams 7m 1633 grams The leading edge is larger than the clouds and I think that helps the relaunch. Even trailing edge down it is easy to get air under the canopy.

i've a gong strutless kites 12m² for low wind days on foil... incredibly stabel and a 12 is not fun on foil above 13 kn. I can foil with it from 7 knots on. relanch can be tricky, the kite skin sticks more to the water than a strutted kite... but I'm happy with it...

Yes we know, best is without wind but we want to shoot outside. We have a mic now with wind protection. Better but not perfect in really windy conditions. Work in progress, but themes important is still story tales & good fun \"/ If some have tips! Please let us know!

You should consider a comparison between structless x kite foil in a light wind condition for hydrofoiling because it's the next "battle" in kite industry: structless x double skin x single skin kite foils

It’s not only the design what works best physically, but the price as well. At my local spot in New Zealand, there is a growing trend for the foil board riders to use the single skin foil kite (FlySurfer), where the primary reason is the lower price point and the design happens to work well enough for foilboarding. By well enough I mean they are willing to trade-off the risk of not being able to relaunch in the water being several hundred metres offshore in the pacific ocean. Then thee are the pump up wings, can’t imagine my self using these, no harness to take up the load, your arms take it all.

Dr511 , ha ha. At least the FlySurfer Peaks have some degree of floating. I tried a single skin NASA kite once kitesurfing and it loves to sink to the bottom once it hits the water and act as an anchor.

yea! At last a Maui style kite for kiters outside of Hawaii. How well does it depower once the apparent wind kicks in to avoid the foilboard exiting the water. I come from a foilkite (FlySurfer) and foilbaord background.

Total Depower stays great. More wind means a longer depower range on the bar.

I've seen you do the 12 o'clock stability test on some other kites in super light wind and criticisize the kite. Looks like the Ghost has much more wind when you tested it...

The Ufo is a incredible kite! 9 and 5m for me foiling and kitesurfing with a unusaul feeling, drift smooth and great performance for freeriding!! better maui cloud for sure! relaunch easier with Ufo

Floating hydrofoils... Do you have any issues with these tracking upwind? I'm worried that it will run away from me upwind and I won't be able to catch it.

No worries, hydrofoils drift downwind so fast that you don't need a upwind body drag.

I currently have a FS Peak4 8m How would you compare its low wind performance to SS UFO and Ozone Alpha?

Just a thought...as you have reviewed them both. What are your thoughts of the Slingshot UFO vs the Duotone Neo SLS. I realise they are supposed to be different ideas, but a 3 strut that is almost as good as a strutless in light wind is going to be difficult to ignore. Is the UFO special enough?

It would improve your videoes so much if you fixed the sound. Try a clip on mic with wind stop material. You have such great content, but horrible audio..!

@@Kitefinder The clip on mic you have would probably benifit from a more hairy/fluffy wind screen. To reduce the clipping sound from the wind rattling the shell of the mic. You have a very uplifting vibe and very good content, but I think you would get many many more viewers to stay if you upped the sound quality (maybe even post production leveling the sound a bit, I know it's all xtra work). Thx for the videos, always informing and most of all fun to watch :)
