This is a retrospective look at a slip form stone project I did 7 years ago. The very tight angle where the fences came together combined with the fact that I couldn't brace it beyond the corner itself due to the road right of way meant I needed a single very solid and durable post. I also wanted a project to develop my stone working skills and I wanted it to look reasonably presentable since it is very visible from the road.
KZbin doesn't have a category for fences or masonry or construction so I put it in "animals" because it is there to keep the sheep in and the coyotes out.

What about Fieldstone that is round and lumpy shaped, I don't have time or tools to cut stones

I don't know much about that but from what I understand it works OK. All the field stone around here is various shapes of broken slabs of limestone. I usually don't cut it, I just pick a straight side and put that on the outside. I would imagine the biggest challenge to using cobbles would be the larger gaps between the form and the stone. I've already found it useful to stuff the gaps with something pliable to help with that. When I built this post I stuffed the space between the stones and the form with old newspapers. I did it to save mortar and work, but I'd think something similar would be really important if using round stones. If I get chance sometime maybe I'll do an experiment with it. Not sure what I'd use for round stones though... cutting them straight is one thing, but cutting them round would be harder still. Maybe I could use wiffle balls or something just to test it.
