How To Make Gate Posts The Easy Way (Well, perhaps slightly easier way, at least!)

There's a lot of work in making a gate-post, because there's a lot of material in them. Traditionally they would have been made from stone, but unless those stones were huge, they would need to be concreted together. Otherwise the weight of the gate would quickly pull them apart. Here is a way that ends up looking the same but, in theory at least, is quicker and easier to do. If the concrete lorry had been able to unload directly into the pipes, that would have saved a lot more work, too.
Ok, here are some important website links. Please check them out..

I was just thinking to myself... why on earth didn't they dig a foundation, drop a 2m piece of RSJ in a metre, then pop the tube over them. Would take a serious knock to get that to go over then :D I'd have put tube in for lights also - even if they were just LV and powered off a solar panel elsewhere.

I'm a retired builder and I have two 8 tonne excavators on my property so I won't have to resort to your ingenious pallet method. I would have gone crazy with reinforcing steel and set the posts on a steel reinforced plinth. But, having said that, the proof is in the pudding. They are standing and upright and that is all you need. They look really good. I can't wait to see how you build your gates. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

I noticed that they put the advertising at the very end of your video which most people are unlikely to watch the whole way through! I always watch (or at least allow the adds to play) assuming that this will ensure that the creator receives a payment for it? Maybe you folks could clarify it and talk about this on a video, I'm sure most people would be happy to not 'skip add' if they knew it would reduce your payment. Just a thought that I thought I'd share. I've been enjoying your videos for some time now, thanks for persevering and sharing!

I like the design. I'm surprised at only one gate pin per post. I'm imagining a two piece gate that opens in the middle, maybe with wheels on the bottom for support. That would hold up but likely would struggle in the gravel/uneven ground. Just thinking of the weight of the gate entirely bearing on the top of the post, twisting it out of the ground. I'm sure you've thought of this, just wondering how the gate design with accommodate the torque.
