62, and I agree. I don't know if I would call him the voice of the generation, because we were lucky enough to have so many great voices, but he was among the best. My mom was a little unsure about them hearing my favorite song, "The Boxer". She didn't really think it was appropriate for me, who discovered the song at 10 to hear this: "Asking only workman's wages, I come looking for a job But I get no offers Just a come-on from the whores on 7th Avenue I do declare, there were times when I was so lonesome I took some comfort there,"

@@joannbeiser4907 There is a difference between being disrespectfull for all the music Paul has given us, and acknowledging that the man is 82 years old and can nolonger sing the way he used to. I'm happy for the guy that he can still play guitar and do his thing, and several of his songs will always instantly bring me back to my youth, but notice how this is pretty much the only comment that says this is a good performance? The rest allmost exclusively say how it reminds them of when Paul was younger. We can sit here and pretend that we have this song on repeat, but we don't. Paul is getting too old for this, somebody should tell him that.

While he can't play as cleanly as he once did, nor does he sound like he did decades ago, this was the best performance of this song that I've ever seen. Brilliant guitar arrangement, touching vocal. He didn't just perform that song, he embodied it. I was profoundly moved.

I LOVE how he recognizes that his voice isn’t the same as when he was young, doesn’t try to recreate that young cover, but uses it to introduce even more soul. It reminds me of Johnny Cash’s later work, some of which is heavily used in tv and movie scenes to emphasize the heavy. I hope we continue to hear this Paul Simon version.
@yajy45017 ай бұрын
He and Cash both made some of their very best work at the end of life as well. There are artists who have one or two incredible peaks in their career and then sort of fade creatively, and then there are those like Simon or Cash who just seem to have an endless supply of creativity. They just do what they’re born to do 👍
@panan7777Ай бұрын
I am 70, but very lucky to have much younger body. My voice if essentially the same, just got deeper. Still years away from the "old man's" voice. But I completely agree on emotions he puts into the song as well as Johnny Cash. I had some bad times, overcome it all and I try to keep sunny disposition at all times. So while Hurt is really good, it hurts too much to listen..
