I just bought my first slip joint as an adult. I've only been back into knives for about a year now. I got a GEC pocket Carver in red and black micarta. The fit and finish is very well done and I'd like to get some of their other designs.
@Dmhlcmb Жыл бұрын
You and I have very similar taste in pocket knives. More muted, natural colors, mostly single bladed, well used with good patina. I say that and I just bought a red Ben Hogan😂 Awesome collection.

Glad to see you back bro!!! Gotta be honest, your Traditional knives 101 crash course video from like 5 years ago got me going full speed back into traditionals again. It gave me some insight and pointers so I didn't come across as a total slipjoint newbie 🤔🤣 I also have an old Hayn' Helper in 01 and love it!! GEC Bullnose is what you were trying to remember.. I didn't see your GEC 85 green briar with the EO notch mod but I fell in love with that knife!! 😍❤ Anyways welcome back and you were definitely missed!!! God bless & ✌

Good morning! (Currently in NC) What a perfect video to watch as I get up and drink my coffee, while the rest of the family is still asleep. My traditional knife collection is very similar. I am a huge 1 layer fan as well. Maybe that should be my next video too. 😊

I won’t even lie, when I worked in sales I carried a large Chris Reeve sebenza in micharta and it was never a problem. Now that I am a cop though I carry a Socom elite. Love the traditional stuff though! Used to carry them as a secondary a few years ago. Great video brother and glad to see you back!

Long time no see. I'm still buying GEC. Bought two Toothpicks - Tidioute Che Chen Rosewood. Gave one to my Uncle. Now he has two, previously gave him a Geppetto Whittler green jigged bone prototype. He's a wood carver - a "handy" guy. Thought he'd liked a "simple, nice piece of work". Now that he has two, I told him "When you have one, it's a pocket knife. When you have two, it's pocket jewelry". Funny thing, when I gave him the first one, the whittler, he said "I use a mallet." Duh. Anyway, nice to hear you are still enjoying GECs. Take care.

Thank you for the review. I too have a lot of slip joint pocket knives but can't understand why. I understand all the traditional reasons, but how do I justify these compared to the safety of carrying a lock blade knife? What do you think?

That long Case is the Slimline Trapper. If you want to grab a new GEC anytime soon, get yourself a 44 Gunstock! Still available online and the F&F is top notch...seems like a pattern that you might enjoy.

I love how those knives are getting used and not being pampered in safe. It Charlie Campagna who commissions TC barlows from GEC.
@dwainsw40764 жыл бұрын
Case is the last of the old time manufacturers still producing knives aren’t they? Among my father and uncles Case, Boker and Kabar were the knives that were carried.
@deathbyastonishment79304 жыл бұрын
Boker still produces nice slipjoints, when was queen founded? Otter Messer is still around along with some Sheffield makers, so definitely not just case

One thing I'd like to ask you. I bought a new GEC no.22 and gave it to my dad and about a month later he gave it back to me and it was rusting. He has carried carbon steel knives his whole life and never had a problem. So I gave him a early 70's cv case and after about a year it has no rust. I quit buying them because of it. Do you have any idea why with the same type of steel the GEC would and the Case not? I even forced a patina it and after a week it was rusted again.
@SuperSteelSteve5 жыл бұрын
Probably a matter of blade finish. Does your 22 have a basic satin and Case have a more mirrored finish?
@stevewelborn87445 жыл бұрын
SuperSteel Steve yes
@SuperSteelSteve5 жыл бұрын
@@stevewelborn8744 that's what I figured. It's pretty crazy how dramatic the effect finish can have on corrosion resistance. I say that because I had an small experiment last week when I moved. 2 knives...XM-18 s35vn with a "working finish" (bead blast and tumbled) and a GEC 15 1095 that I polished the blade face with a buffing wheel on a dremmel. Both in my sweaty jeans all day... The s35vn XM-18 had rust forming after literally 2 hours.. The GEC 15 had ZERO.... I was floored man.

I don't like slip joints because when push comes to shove the blade can cause an emergency room visit. Why would you risk it?
@wizardofahhhs7592 жыл бұрын
Case's CV is a powdered high carbon steel, that's why it's more brittle and has a different "feel" to it.

Not a slip joint guy but I like the newer slip joint by Benchmade but my favorite is my $50 GEC Bullnose polished green micarta handle great action not to stiff but just the right amount 1095 steel which on a older styled slipjoint is great steel came razor sharp lost 1/8 inch of my thumb to it wasn’t used to the stops on slipjoint and paid in flesh🤡👍🏻✌🏻. I am a licking blade man though around 100 blades and maybe 5 are slipjoint.
