That "generic riff" is actually my favourite thing about the song as it forms a solid foundation for everything else to work on top of. It gives the song its pace, groove and some grit. Loads of people will likely be air guitaring to that riff at their local rock bar/club.

This is why I love your reaction videos, we always manage to hit on the same points. I fell out of love with Slipknot by the time Iowa came out and for me the music just became too boring. By that time I had discovered The Dillinger Escape Plan & SikTh so I was in a whole different place. Corey's vocals are great in this track, but it's that stock sounding guitar riff that lets it down for me. It's better than I had expected given their last few releases, but probably not worth another listen from me.

Johns review is pretty generic. He is not even a slipknot fan. everything he said about the last album was off. on the other side of things, love this song. it sounds like slipknot. they have learned what they are good at and have stuck to it i think. maybe not Iowa heavy but we will see with the rest of the album

paul wrote snuff, that's it. sure, he *co-wrote* some riffs with jim and mick, but so did corey, clown, chris, and joey.

The way they talk about Paul makes him sound much more like a sort of director than riff-writer. He had a hand in a lot, but Joey wrote quite a bit of the earlier riffs in the days before Iowa. Jim was added after pretty much everything was written, and Mick wasn’t around for all of the 3-5 years it took to nail down a debut album track list. Iowa was still relatively simple where guitar riffs are concerned, but they used simple riffs in more complex ways and started really making use of the sort of dueling guitar style Mick and James are known for, so to say they didn’t have at least have a hand in writing them doesn’t make much sense.

So like let's have a generic speech ripping off pulse of the maggots, let's add a drum snare solo thingy like the blister exists. I wish I liked this like every other maggots but I really don't

The main driving riff sounds like Negative One’s cousin, but for the rest of the song it only really sounds similar to .5 because of the production. The bridge into the, “breakdown,” or whatever you want to call it is Vol.3, and the, “we are not your kind,” part is straight up Iowa. My only gripe with the song is that the Iowa-style part led into a final chorus. I would have preferred them just continuing the build into an explosion, similar to Disasterpiece.
