I'm the mom of a HUGE Slipknot fan. I have to admit, this band scared me a bit, and it worried me when I found out that my son was listening to them. That was only because I was too busy judging instead of learning. I'm thankful that I sat down with him, many times, to listen to him explain the symbolism behind their masks, I paid attention while he explained lyrics, and watched intently as he and I sat and watched as many documentaries (like this one) on them just to help me grasp why he liked them so much. This band helped my son through a very angry and painful time in his life.... and I'm thankful that he found them..... I'm also thankful that I opened up my mind to understand what this band is actually about.

+Penny Fleming we need more mums like you in the world. In fact, more people like you. I can't count the number of times that uninformed and ignorant people have put me down for liking this band, so it means so much to me that there are people like you who take the time to understand us. The approach you have taken is applicable to so many other aspects of today's world, I just hope more people can learn to do this.
@71flem8 жыл бұрын
Hey William Vickery, I would say 'thank you', but I actually think that the 'thank you' should be being said to you.... that and a huge apology from the closed minded people, of which I used to be. What I can tell you is this, at least from a parent's point of view...when you have kiddos, you already have a pre-destined plan for them (ridiculous, I know....but just wait...lol)....and when they start walking toward a path that you have NO KNOWLEDGE of, it's scary. I knew my son was at a really low point, then to feast my eyes on this band that he had chosen as his way of coping really took me aback. I guess the difference is, rather than demean him for it, I asked questions. Music has always been a huge part of our family dynamic, so it was easy to get the conversation started. In truth, I'm fascinated by this band, and by their shear intelligence and talent. He gets really angry when people judge him for liking them as well. One piece of advice that I can give you when people judge you for it....ask them what they know about the band....ask them if they know what the masks symbolize.... something to get a conversation started. It's hard not to jump on the defensive, but I can tell ya' a conversation is worth its weight in gold....so much so, I've downloaded some of that 'gold' onto my own playlists. LOL. Be blessed and be happy.

glad someone said it. cause “ClOwN” has no problem trying to take all the credit for slipknot like he is irreplaceable. he’s damn near a bigger attention whore than sid. funny how all the original “founding” members died. Clown saw that as more money. clown may be a big part as far as his keg but he and what he does is really not even needed. he was out of the last couple of shows and it was the same. i wouldn’t be surprised if he brought in the keg that way he is actually needed for a song. i’ve never liked his demeanour. shady as fuck man

After Shawn closes Paul's cabinet at 11:10 you can see Joey's locker right underneath it - still there, untouched. Kind of heartwarming to know that even if they aren't in the band anymore, they're definitely not forgotten.
@LailaVieiraMartins7 жыл бұрын
spartenbeny Honestly (this is my opinion) I think they unfortunately don't give a shit about Joey. Instead of staying by his side while he fought a possibly career ending illness like the family they always claimed to be, they kicked him out like an old, sick dog. Worst of all, they didn't even have the guts to do it to his face, they fired him cowardly through email. That's not something you do to family. I'm sorry if my words seem harsh, I still love Slipknot and I adore Joey, I just wish they would reach out to him and get him back (no disrespect to Jay, he's a great musician but Joey's irreplaceable). Anyway, just had to get this off my chest.

Mohamed Shamim before cory was with the band . Anders Colsefni was the singer. Shawn and joey were the first two guys to play together. Shawn pulled a clown mask out of a closet. Shawn had turned to joey. Joey was weirded out but thought ohhh that's sick. Hence the masks. The bands name was originally painface. A song called "slipknot" was on the LP. So they changed the name to slipknot because it seemed like a better fit. When anders got the boot he started painface again with a new band.

6:35 Slipknot isn't about that. We, the fans, nor Slipknot the band, wants anyone to die for them. Having something truly worth dying for, means you can live for it and be a part of it. Slipknot keeps people alive, dying is what others want to happen to you. "The mark of the immature man is that he wants to die nobly for a cause, while the mark of the mature man is that he wants to live humbly for one."

Randomly enough, last night I bumped into a friend of mine who is in a tech-death metal band and he said he and many other people he knows in other bands all have diagnosed ADHD and that it seems to be quite common amongst us metalheads... so I wouldn't be shocked if Corey has it as well. Saw them live when I was 15. So, 19 years ago. Fucked up my ears for a solid week afterwards. Been going to see metal again this last year and taking musicians earplugs with me. They help a lot. If you really love music, look after your ears out there.
@gimmeahorse5 жыл бұрын
Oh man, that sounds tough. I hope you don't have any long lasting problems because of that? I'm gonna be seeing them in two weeks and already ordered some musicians earplugs, so I'm glad to see that they work. I saw them for the first time last summer and my ears were also fucked up after that. But wow, seeing them back then in their prime must've been awesome!!
@spiritlevelstudios5 жыл бұрын
@@gimmeahorse yeh, nah. I got a free hearing check after getting my ear plugs and it is currently perfect. The plugs I got are 15 db lower, as recommended by the lady and yeh, can still have conversations with them in. It was pretty awesome otherwise and me and my mates did some crowd surfing. We were the youngest people there and the crowd was good to us.
@gimmeahorse5 жыл бұрын
@@spiritlevelstudios That's reassuring, good to hear man! Oh okay, I'll need to look for the db then. Dang!! I bet you won't forget about that, that's pretty fucking special! I'm too scared to get into the pit in the first place pff

Middle school this year for me has been hell for me. Constant pressure from being different, kids looking at me like an outcast. And here's Slipknot who helped me through the darkest of times. Like they once said, "Don't ever judge me".

i was working at Walmart and a friend of mine there had told me about this awesome new band named Slipknot, Little did i know that they were from Iowa and had just released their first album. I was instantly hooked and got to see them 13 times back when they were just taking off in the music scene. I'm so proud of them at least one awesome thing came from Iowa. I also found out that they had signed 300 copies of a poster of their album cover during the release of their first album. I frantically called around the Des Moines area and after many shops I finally managed to snag one from a tiny music store, in some random mini mall. One of my most prized possessions

Matt Damon it's funny how you had to delete your comments so you don't look too stupid. All you've proved is how you don't have the mental capacity to realise when you're wrong. You started an irrelevant conversation and you can't finish it.

Ya know what? I loved Slipknot in middle school and high school. listened to them every morning on my way to school, listened to them before football practice, listened when I hated, and I listened when I loved. When we talk about favorite bands, I always bring up Slipknot and am still listening after 8 years.

My son got into the band at school, my first impression was wtf is this ! In a negative way. Upon listening to their music time and time again , I began to like them more and more. Beginning with the softer stuff, then moving onto the heavier tunes. I have to say as a 57 year old 😊 the band are actually amazing. We've just had wanyk and I'm looking forward to the next album already.. can't attend any gigs though the bones can't handle it lol 😊😊😊

its crazy. way back in the day, I was at a local Circuit City store, in their music section, and came across the debut Slipknot album. I looked at it, put it down, walked away and returned to it. What struck me was the front cover and once I saw that and the label it was on, I knew I had to get it. So, that was how I first heard of them. Bought their debut on a whim way back in the day right when it came out
