Slipknot and Iowa, (the song) in particular is pretty much a live action macabre art piece. Everything and everyone on stage are in synchronized motion and cadence. They’re their own artful entity reciting their poetry. But it’s not just their lyrics that are poetic. It’s their expression; their anger, their pain, they’re wearing it on their sleeves. The way they make and perform their art acts as a sort of catharsis for them all simultaneously. It’s powerful; it’s profound

What is the significance of this song ?
@KirePlasmaX2 жыл бұрын
@@celestialband Iowa was by far the darkest, most depressing, vile thing the band had ever written, let alone put into words. Iowa has such dark lyrics, dark meaning, filled with nothing but absolute hate and despair. The track itself is 905 seconds, or 15:05 long, but the live version was dragged out even longer. The significance here, is that the full song has never been played live, and up until today, this is the only time, 20 years after being recorded, that Iowa has ever been sung in full length live. Corey definitely conveys the worst emotion here, visibly showing the pain he feels, and re-expressing the emotions he felt while making the song. Corey was lying naked on the ground, burning himself with candle wax and cutting himself on shards of glass, throwing up on himself, while recording Iowa. It only took him two takes.

I gave it some thought these days 'cause i just discovered this song and i don't think it is accurate to compare the songs Daddy: a victim's story of rape (Being a real story) to Iowa: a tale of (possible) murder and dead raping and madness. It's like saying poor you who raped a corpse, it sounds off 😌 Nevertheless, backstory wise both very disturbing but not for the same reasons. The only reasons why Iowa is painful is for the deconstruction it puts us and the band in: a truely disturbed mind(whether it's but intoxicating yourself or by basically abusing another being), and also the backstory concerning the recording with the glass and the screaming and all, but again, to me it's about not being yourself, to a certain extent to suppress yourself, exiting from your own shell of sanity/health (regarding the drugs). Then Daddy is more about being torn(autocorrect suggested korn weirdly enough) inside out, being raped of a piece of your soul when you never asked for it (espacially as a kid), overall, being a victim and this goes on and on because you weren't believed, when Jonathan breaks down during this song and performances, it's his past that shows up, so many repressed feelings, that he probably grew up to understand, rationalize... etc, he is struck by all those things that traumatized him. Definitely not the same kind of pain. I shouldn't be spending that much time analyzing all this... It's so much evil and hurt... okay goodnight !

@hakumusic20052 жыл бұрын
This is the type of music that everyone wants to hear in live because it's a rarity, but they never want it to be played continuously on a tour, because it's a unique and inhuman state of a broken, destroyed, devastated and tormented mind that nobody thinks about getting there, but when it does, it's like a nightmare as a kid, you never want to have those thoughts again, and that's what brings all the macabre and sober air to this song. As is clear from the images and the screams heard throughout this "session", it was a hard trip into the past for Corey, I think he needed to do this because of the pressure of the fans who always wanted or dreamed of hearing Iowa in his full and purest legitimate state of pain and suffering seen within the album, and I can say that this experience gets clearer and worse to see it in live, it's like seeing a complete suicide of his closest friend, but in the slowest and most painful way as possible, for bring to you eternal trauma to your long and miserable life that awaits you. It's really necessary to give Corey a standing ovation for having done this for the fans, it's like a achievement made for him that took that weight off his back of having to play this song for completely, and for the fans, who finally had the opportunity to see in high quality what Iowa is all about in its purest state. It was certainly one of the most difficult songs to play live for all his history and meaning within the album and the band, but we should know an important detail, playing this song involves being willing to have a severe and hard time of pain and suffering that you wouldn't want on your worst enemy, so we must never force Corey and Slipknot to play Iowa all over again, for Corey's sake, for the band's sake, and for all of us.

Breathtaking, but I feel like this wasn't for me to witness, for anyone to witness honestly. Perhaps it was good for Corey to get this out, but it hurt a little to watch. I think we take for granted the heaviness of Iowa, the song and album. It wasn't just heavy because it sounded cool. It was heavy because there was layers upon layers of shit that each member was dealing with. We don't truly want Iowa back.

it amazes me how he didnt give a shit in attempting to perform this with proper vocal technique, je hust went as raw as the album version, truly screaming his guts out, obviously his voice cracked so much, he could affort to do it with that same power and consitency as back in the day, but it was highly apretiated how he showed he still had that rawness for a moment, he ended really fucked up, IOWA is no joke
