Yeah it’s good. I remember it from downloading it off Napster in like 99 or 2000? I think 2000 coz self titled was released everywhere here in 2000 here in Australia. But coming back all these years later I reckon it’s fucking great. I read in an earlier comment about appreciating where slipknot comes from and I totally agree with that. It’s great to hear the origins and foundations. This is fucking awesome. Think about hearing this in the mid 90’s? As a young metal head? Of course it gained traction. And the rest… But great album listening again after so long. I think it showcases their awesome musicianship even with different members. It’s a different side. Lots of open space parts. Quite musical. And you’re right with the bungle comment also I totally agree

In my personal opinion, this album is infinitely better than everything else in their discography. This is the only Slipknot album I like. I listen to thrash metal and classic heavy metal mostly. I'm not into Slipknot and other modern mainstream metal bands. So I naturally would rather listen to MFKR. It's definitely not thrash metal or traditional heavy metal, but it's far more technical and interesting than all of their later albums.

This is probably my favorite album of all time. It mixes genres such as metal, industrial and even disco in a way that I've never seen somebody else come even close to. The guitars (which most people think suck) actually sound very raw, and fit with this style perfectly. Also, Anders sings deeper than Corey, and screams like the fucking devil, so I definitely prefer him, specially for this album. Anyways, a true masterpiece. Glad somebody took their time to make it sound a little better and that a good amount of people seem to enjoy it as much as myself

@benjaminphillips56395 жыл бұрын
James Vinson that’s because it was Donnie Steele who made this intro and for Slipknot to recycle it I’d think they’d have to give him credit. Actually Donnie played lead guitar in this entire album. He left the band right after recording because of religious conflict. It’s a shame I think kit Donnie had stayed with Slipknot they would have had a more melodic edge in some songs instead of just the sledgehammer riffs in too many Slipknot songs, although Jim Root can make some melodic riffs here and there.

This was the Slipknot I knew and came to love. Slow, gritty, funky, brutal; you can hear direct inspirations of so many "big time" metal acts of the time. They were just one of dozens of amazing hard rock/heavy metal bands in Des Moines when I was growing up. The music scene was really intense back then, and these guys were on top as the craziest group guys that would get the whole house moving. If you can imagine, there was alot of stuff like this in DM at the time, and most of it has vanished. If you aren't already familiar, and you want more DM hard rock/metal from this era (i.e. bands that would have played with, or neat, Slipknot at local shows) look up groups like Painface, Squidboy, Black Market Fetus, Atomic Opera, Modifidius, Heroic Dose, Down the Sun, Jackass Project (no relation to the tv show), Moth, Dirt Nap, Seven Ladder House, Stone Sour (1990s lineup), Mirkwood, Pale Horse, Body Pit, Facecage, etc. Wish I could remember the others off the top of my head. There was SO MUCH good music in Des Moines, and this is one album that always stood out to everyone here.
@ThePyreAmid10 күн бұрын
Heroic Dose, what a name. I tell you now, the original SLIPKNOT is Top. That being said, the change of their style over time has truly been something to behold. Looking back, the corporate hijacking prior to 99 is extremely evident when considering their earlier works (mfkr), which is strange for me because It was listening to Vol 3 that got Me into them hahaa. Once I found 99 and Iowa i was absolutely gobsmacked, the samples and compositions, the drumming, everything. Being a Fan of Primus, Funkadelic, Life of Agony, and such, this albums can't be heard with better ears, you know? and considering the actual quality of the Album, its brushing under the rug can't have been any more telling, in hindsight. Shaun Crahan has recently collaborated with Balenciaga like ayeyeah that aint fucking weird. Who would have thought a Clown could be so Tone-Deaf you know? Back to This Album, I guarantee even if they didn't become HUGE. The Legacy of Slipknot (especially the Joey/Paul fusion) would have planted seeds of inspiration that would have appeared further down the line. Confessions, These Young Men saw a different future ahead of Them. May Paul and Joey rest in Peace.

Holy crap. This music is so great and intelligent, and still like they're just randomly having fun, so natural. I don't see why this wasn't their first hit.
