This is easily the best Slipknot vocal cover I’ve seen. It’s very obvious you’ve spent years perfecting that trademark Corey Taylor vocal style. Not just in the “Iowa Scream” sense, but in a tonal sense. Absolutely phenomenal. Passion goes a long way in music.
@darcywhitty12074 жыл бұрын
The way hes screaming isnt the correct way to scream. Its called the iowa scream because coreys scream in the first 2 albums was him shouting and distorting his voice. Its very dangerous and cuts off vocal range if you continue to do it. This guy hasnt put any work into this scream or very little work into it because its the incorrect way. But it is a very pleasing scream but i hate knowing how much pain the singer is in
@erect4e3694 жыл бұрын

@jagooswell79934 жыл бұрын
You just aren’t meant to use emotion in screaming because the tension damages the voice
@The_JustJoshing4 жыл бұрын
Jago Oswell That’s the thing though. Corey’s Iowa scream was so powerful because of the emotion behind it. Not saying his vocals are not powerful now, they definitely are. He sounds absolutely murderous on We Are Not Your Kind. But my point still stands.
@jagooswell79934 жыл бұрын
TheJustJoshing I know but you can be emotional and produce a great sound with proper technique, you can definitely feel the emotion more in earlier slipknot as it’s much easier and more real sounding with using his actual vocal cords to scream because he’s literally screaming. He was most likely in pain during this recording too because of the technique he used. You’ve absolutely got a point there.

It wouldnt have fit their style at the time, but it would sound awesome now
@anthonypena3364 жыл бұрын
@@midchaff5010 That's how I feel about 99% of WANYK. People are saying "oh (random song off the album) sounds like something made during Iowa" or "this song sounds like it belongs on Iowa" and I say the exact same thing you're saying. It wouldn't fit the style they had back then. It's a LOT more melodic than Iowa. Even this technique Matt is using on this song just....doesn't feel right. While it is awesome, don't get me wrong, but it just feels out of place to me. I'd say the most "Iowa" song on the new album is either Critical Darling or Red Flag. But that's really about it to me. Good album but definitely nowhere even close to Iowa.
@midchaff50104 жыл бұрын
@@anthonypena336 I completely agree with you man, and WANYK is good but I feel like it is nothing compared to the self titled, Iowa, or Volume 3 at all. It just feels like theres only 6 real songs on the album and the rest are interludes or fillers where Iowa was not as processed but you had more songs on that album that there is kind of a trade off, like do you want unpolished songs in bigger quantity like Iowa or polished songs in less quantity with more filler. Again this is just my opinion but I hope you agree

Incredibly close rendition of IOWA period but I don't think anyone can imitate it completely. The reason, personally, that made 2001-2 era's vocal technique demonic and chilling was how much Taylor's melodic singing voice was the spine of all his screaming. The way he could distort it from singing to shouting, then into screaming with such seamless ease was evidence that he had a phenomenal control over his chords. If you listen closely to Disasterpiece Concert 2002 London and Taylor's screams, you can still hear a thin trace of his melodic singing voice underlying everything he does, rather than pure, brutal screaming that has no contour or rise/fall that's unbefitting to the context of the song. I think that is what keeps me listening to Taylor. The fact that he has regained such technique for WANYK after all these years is a testament to his immense physical constitution.
