Hey everyone! I'm sorry it took so long just for me to do this. I never, EVER anticipated that my videos would get the attention that they did, and KZbin has been on the back-burner for me for the last year. I am in school full time, am preparing for graduate school, and work a job that only became much busier with COVID. I want to thank everyone that has watched any of my previous videos, taken the time to comment, or interacted with them in any capacity. It feels quite undeserving given my activity as a "content creator" (lol) and I appreciate each and every one of you. I PROMISE I'M GOING TO DO ANOTHER SLIPKNOT VOCAL COVER! I've already picked the song, it's off WANYK again, and just have to get all my equipment set up again and actually track it. I've been toying with the idea of doing a medley of a bunch of vocal parts from other albums, like Volume 3, in a single video using the Iowa scream, but I'm trying not to get ahead of myself. Once again, thank you to everyone, and I hope all of you have been safe and are recovering from the absolute rollercoaster ride that has been 2020!

Yo. Are you interested in doing that Corey Taylor style vocals on a track (or all the tracks if it goes well and we can come to an agreement) for the Heavy Metal musical that I have written? I have just gotten to properly produced recording sessions this last week, but if you're interested I'd love to hear from you.

Fun fact: corey’s iowa screams were just overprojected glottal compressing screams with just a little extra sumn on his voice, wouldn’t really recommend doing any type of scream like that as it can damage your voice big time. But great cover Matthew! I really enjoyed it
@MatthewSparks
@MatthewSparks 4 жыл бұрын
Is that what they are? I'm totally ignorant on mechanics of screaming and have no formal education on vocals of any kind. I basically just started mimicking vocalists I liked in middle school and it took off from there. I've always found it incredibly challenging to describe how to do this scream, and it's NOTHING like what you'll hear described in tutorial videos online for various scream techniques.

@@MatthewSparks yeah that’s what they are more or less! I recommend watching “hungry lights” “how to scream” video! But check the pinned comment on that video because some of the screams are dangerous if you do them, it’s really helpful, got me into screaming actually haha. Best of luck to you! Can’t wait to see what else you come up with and maybe that video will be of any help :)

You got the best interpretation of the Iowa scream that I've ever heard! It's brutal in all the ways and it sounds so brutal compared to the traditional False Cord growls. But one question though, how did you feel after recording this? From what I've gathered there's a lot of throat involved in this type scream and not that much diaphragm? From what I hear from the end of the notes it sounds like it hurts doing it? Might just be what it sounds like. But it sounds good man! I would've love to hear this to an instrumental version of solway firth. That stuff would sell!

Question: I’m sure this was a fucking beating on your voice, it’s clear you knew you’d have to recover and it wouldn’t feel good. If doing one of these covers is a huge deal, how was Corey able to do it almost every night for 3-4 years, performing 15 songs a night??
@regdenee
@regdenee 3 жыл бұрын
The thing is that Corey did a lot of his screaming while not being sober and rarely giving a damn. A lot of his screams done live from that era has this slight hoarse and hollower tone than what he did on the albums and never being sober on stage made it clear that his technique was lacking. It still sounded good but being drunk on stage night after night takes a toll on the technique. Using the diaphragm drunk is hard, I tried myself. A lot of people think that Corey can't do those screams anymore. But he can and those screams are usually used as backup screams on the albums, but these types of screams (Iowa scream) requires you to rely more on the chest breathing (short but intense breaths of air) than the diaphragm (slow but more powerful breaths of air) and this sorta unlocks this part of the throat that brings this distortion out, without much help from the diaphragm you scream right from your throat. Nowadays he only uses his diaphragm and that takes a lot of pressure away from his throat and relaxes his vocal cords, which opens up the possibility to sing better and scream safely. Why Corey was able to do those screams for so long is a mystery in many ways. But I think it was alcohol that helped to remove the pain from that sore throat of his in combination with not caring too much. But then he had to get help with the technique in 2004 and here we are.
@cyntdestroyer69xd
@cyntdestroyer69xd 3 жыл бұрын
@@regdenee I think Corey was able to do them so long because he's a baritone - his vocal chords are bigger, than tenor voice owners, so they're able to take this stress for a bit longer
@FiratC.
@FiratC. 3 жыл бұрын
If you drink 3 bottles of alcohol everyday and use drugs like corey did, you cant feel your voice is damaged. Corey was using huge amount of drugs and alcohol, and because of those things he wasnt feeling his vocal chords. That means, he doesnt feel the hoarseness, he doesnt feel the pain, he doesnt feel the vocal damage or throat damage. When he quit drugs and alcohol, he lost his scream. I will give you an example to make you understand this. When you go to dentist for your tooth, the dentist is anesthetizing your tooth before the dental treatmant, right? And after anesthezia, you dont feel any pain. Actually dental treatment is veeeeeery painful, but thanks to anesthesia you dont feel any pain. Corey was anesthetizing his throat with that alcohol and drugs, and because of that he wasnt feeling any pain or strain. But once you got sober, you start to feel hoarseness and pain.

@MatthewSparks
@MatthewSparks 2 жыл бұрын
For starters, I was weary of getting hit with the copyright stuff. Having two popular videos demonetized already feels pretty bad as it is. Secondly, if I'm honest, this was very low effort and easy to post in response to people commenting that my own voice wasn't loud enough in the mix. This allows you to really hear my scream and the power. Lastly, despite recording tons of my own original music, I am a TERRIBLE engineer, so I'd have to get way better, or get ahold of/pay someone to do it for me. Maybe one day I'll program some drums for it and play the guitar and bass tracks, that way it'll he complete. I agree with you that it would be WAY cooler that way
