It's been a full decade since this show first premiered. I loved how they leaned into its ludicrous premise, embracing the campy telenovela aspect.

The show was campy and ludicrous yet somehow very grounded and human. I miss this show so much but I’m so glad it got to tell a complete story. Jane, Rogelio, Petra, and Xo were my absolute favorite characters. And depending on the season, I rooted for and against both Raf and Michael to be with Jane.

That’s the whole point of her and Xiomara’s relationship, right? Jane was parentified a lot because her mother had her at 16-17 and because she grew up without her father. And then we have overzealous devout Alba who is so adamant about slutshaming her daughter that she drills into Jane from such a young age that she was a mistake and she derailed her mothers life and to not repeat the same mistakes Xiomara did

The ability of the show to explore complex issues next to ridiculous shenanigans is really good. So many topics brought up. Alba and Xiomara's relationship tackled not only mother and daughter issues, but grief over the dad's death, the fear of deportation, how traumatizing shaming around sex is, specially in latinamerican and catholic cultures, the generational trauma... All in a nuanced way, no one felt like the bad guy, but people learning to communicate and heal. And a lot of murders in the background.

Jane The Virgin and Crazy Ex-Girlfriend were *peak* CW. The shows were able to incorporate all of the drama and camp that the channel was known/infamous for and meshes it with excellent writing and amazing characters. With this show I was always a Michael and Jane person. When Michael died I was devastated, but I stuck around because I loved Jane and her family. I never liked Jane and Raphael together. It always felt like the writers were trying their hardest to get me to like them, but I just couldn't grow to like them. That aside I loved how the show married in a way the telenovela and western television. I miss this era of the CW where their shows were actually good and enjoyable to watch. I don't even watch the channel anymore.

I think my two favorite things about this show was the evolution of Raphael and Jane and always supporting each other and Petra’s arc. Petra went from this ruthless woman who wanted revenge and struggled to loving her kids and becoming a good mother. I love the poignant storyline was Jane’s and Petra’s family dinners as they promise each other that no matter what, they will stand together. It was sweet. I also like the family dynamics no matter how zany they are at times.

It couldn't be a telenovela unless Michael came back with amnesia. That is one of the central "must haves" for telenovelas. Because of that, I was glad they brought Michael back and then ultimately had him with Charlie in Montana. From the beginning, I wanted Jane to end up with Rafael. But the moment I _hated_ Michael as a character was when he hit Rafael outside of Petra's wedding *_While Rafael Was Holding The Baby._* A good person would never do that. From that moment on, I hated Michael.

I absolutely adored the first two seasons of this show. The way it respectfully portrayed Catholicism, even though I no longer identify as such, was refreshing. The bond between the Villanueva women was what truly drew me in, along with Jane's journey to motherhood and literary success (and Petra's fantastic character growth!). However, by later seasons, the telenovela parodies felt overplayed, a bit like a joke that had run its course. The turning point for me was Jason's (Michael's) fate at the end of season four. It felt like a cruel disservice to a well-developed character, and season five confirmed that. Rafael's constant emotional manipulation and his attempts to turn Mateo against his mother became tiresome. Unfortunately, some characters I initially loved, like Alba, her husband, and even Petra's new girlfriend, started to feel unlikable. While I could accept the inevitable "Jafael" endgame that was hinted at since the very start of the show, I thought Petra deserved something better, perhaps even staying single.

I am one of the ones who stopped watching after Michael's death. The show was about Jane navigating an expected pregnancy with an added love triangle. Once she was married, there was no reason to revisit the Jane/Raf drama. If the only way to end your love triangle is to kill off a character, then the resulting relationship is very weak. If Jane and Raf are endgame, then Micheal should never have been an obstacle to overcome. Moreover, Micheal had excellent side plots that worked well with other characters. Micheal's death felt exactly like Tracy dying in the finale of How I Met Your Mother. It reduced Tracy's character as only the vessel to give Ted kids; in the same way, it reduced Micheal's character as the one Jane lost her virginity to.

While i am on the ”michael deserved better” team i honestly grew to like the idea that sometimes life can give you two loves. Rafael even puts it well: that his and janes lovestory doesnt make hers and michaels any less important. More like a ”yes, and…” Jane and michael were in love and then he died…and then Jane continued to live and found a life with Rafael. I could be happy with that. And then, after making that point michael shows up again…and do they treat mah boi dirty…. So yeah, i loved jane and michael but i honestly would have rather seen their story remain a good memory than have them smear poop all over it with michael leaving his entire family and friends and life in Miami to go be a traumatised (wasnt he like suuuiper tortured by Rostro so he would lose his memory???) and dour cowboy…..

the ratings crashed after michael died so they had to bring him back, but not enough to actually let him stand a chance with Jane. If Brett Dier was brought back as Michael for the entire 5th season instead of just a guest starring role with amnesia, and they kept the tension the love triangle up until the end, it would have been way better

Won’t even try. Her character evolution was truly one of the greatest in the history of tv. It would have been so easy to keep her as the beautiful, backstabbing, evil gold-digger. She evolved into an amazing human, friend, mother, sister to Jane, aunty/tooth fairy to Mateo and all of it felt organic. You could have never convinced me season 1 Petra was capable of all of that but by the end of the show it felt like the only logical conclusion.

I started watching this at a time when I watched every pilot and though it’s not even close to something I’d consider normally, it won me over by its sense of what it was and it’s commitment to it. My favorites are Deadwood and Breaking Bad and most of the films I watch are on the darker side. But I’ve always been a sucker for a good rom-com. I tuned out at some point in the final season, I think before it was known that it was the final season, and never bothered to finish it. It was a sweet show that certainly had its moments, but I’m glad I know how it ends so I don’t have to watch the rest of it 😂

This show was pretty good but I really didn't like Raphael. I didn't mind him at first and I didn't care about the shipping but then in one of the later seasons, Raphael practically supported Mateo's hatred of Jane. And that was only because Raphael was mad about the Michael resurrecting fiasco and the possibility that Jane would choose Michael over him. Mateo had hated Jane so much and Raphael seemed ok with it. A normal parent would sit their kid down and explain that things are complicated but that loving his mom who's trying her best was more important than harboring hate. Especially since Jane was having SUCH a hard time already. It was so bad that Mateo pretended that Jane was a stranger in the street and almost got her in serious trouble. And at the end of the day when Jane broke down, Raphael didn't apologize, Mateo did. I probably don't remember all the details but after that, after Raphael allowed their child to pick sides in the middle of the mess that was Michael reviving and Jane experiencing emotional turmoil because of it, I couldn't stand Raphael. That episode ruined the show for me and I really didn't vibe with the series finale but that's just my opinion. Great video though!

The moment I stopped watching was when Michael came back. I understand why they did it and its a staple trope of Telenovelas, but Michael's "death" was also one of the most heart wrenching moments in the show and the way that Jane pulls herself up from it was so inspirational that I wish they hadn't backpedaled. The initial seasons really balanced parodying Telenovela tropes with genuinely beautiful moments that really got lost as the show went on. To this day I have no interest to complete it yet.

As someone who was a 13-14 year old Jane x Michael shipper watching this show, it was so obvious that they brought Michael back just to make Jane x Rafael shippers happy and it pisses me off to this day. I was starting to actually get used to the idea that Jane and Rafael would end up together in the end and I genuinely think it would’ve been a beautiful way for that story to develop. The way it happened in the end was so jarring ugh.

No Smallville, that show was and still very popular, till this day, even that the last three season left much to desire, I would love you do a retrospective on that TV Show, the relationship between Lex Luthor and his father Lionel was the best part of the show, and of course, Lex slow fall into darkness, he began very shady, controlling and secretive character, but after his first wife strand him into a island began his murderous tendencies.

im gonna be honest. I know a lot of people did not like Micheal dying due to heart complications but it was the first show that ever made me cry. like normally in very sad shows, I just feel depressed cause I'm unable to express my emotions but I was watching that scene and I literally just wept.

@@SlipMaker Fine, don't experience a sinister cult leader with an organ harvesting operation being built up for a whole season, only for him to become a kooky Evel Knievel cosplay and get in his home made rocket ship and killed in sub-5 minutes. But for real, for every hilarious thing, theres hours of absolutely nothing. It would highly benefit from someone fan-editing the entire show. Also, the show is incredibly horny, since the creator wrote erotic Archie fanfiction, which is double gross because they're all still in highschool.
