Soft Body Physics in Scrap Mechanic! 😏 Body is so soft!
Super Heavy Blocks, Lightweight, Bouncy, Low-Friction, etc
We're doing all kinds of tests to see what it's like
Got any suggestions for another soft body test? 🤔

In fact you can just search "Jello" and find a LOT of stuff just like it
"Soft Body" might be another good search for this kinda stuff

Try a version made out of wings. Would be interesting to see how it will behave when being dropped. And maybe a version with pipes and invisible bearings for a net.

It would work like a sail, essentially. Well, if the physics were accurate to real life, and we all know that SM physics are not that.

I was wondering how a net or a sheet with larger "chunks" would be. Like, what if it was flexible in 3x3 squares, or if there were openings in the sheet.

I wonder what happens if you spin the sheets. I'm thinking a centered spin point, off center, and very edge. Thrusters, engines, and controllers could be fun tests.

physics constraints are solved pair-by-pair, which is probably why you saw that grouping, it does very few iterations at physics level "Simple 1" so the alternating pairs aren't as resolved (hence the "gap" between pairs

@@Durf Yup, ice noodles are the thing I was talking about. If you search „phase diagram of water” you will see, that there are actually around 15 different types of ice, each with different structure. Type VII ice can withstand temperatures as high as 400C and exists under extreme pressures only, and that’s just one of them.

Make a sheet of ice with bounce ice along the edge and high friction blocks at the corners like concrete, but 5 times more friction and 5 times heavier. Then put the steering stuff in the middle. I haven't tested it. Experiment with multiple materials and make stuff more than just a single flat layer. Also turn the graphics way down.

What did you use to edit your files? I see you were able to not only change the blocks, but they were modded blocks, and you could change the bearing colors.
@Durf
@Durf 2 жыл бұрын
Just a text/code editor (Notepad can do it, but I used a code editor because I do coding too, make mods for this game, etc) I used 2 blueprints, if you noticed that other thing I saved which was just a few blocks of different types I opened both blueprints up to see their JSON code, which is just a list of blocks, positions, colors, etc So the blueprint with all the block types is just information for me to use, and I would copy the UUID for the different block types Then I would search & replace the UUIDs of the blocks in the "cloth" blueprint, to tell the blueprint it was made of another block type (you can call it "manually" editing blueprints) I also searched and replaced the color codes so it made sense when I spawned it in, otherwise it would be the same old color as before - this is why bearings changed color at all when they didn't have to, just a lazy "replace all" of that color with a new color) If you have never done any coding / modding before, this should still be very easy to do, and you don't need anything special for it Hopefully in the future there will be some better blueprint editors out there, but if it's just for something like this then doing a search and replace in notepad is still the easiest way to go

It would be nice, if more games had more things, that completely change properties at the flick of a switch. There is of course lamps and things like that, but I mean stuff like cloch, that when activated, hardens. This example can be used to make a mold of a complex object very fast, or it can be used for grabbing thing, that have solid, non-malleable and complex shapes regardless of slipperyness. Another cool mechanism would be a block, that changes friction. It would also be nice, if games had more complex math like fx setting the friction to (altitude)×((playerdefined variable)^2). I am not talking about any game in particular. I just mean games in general. Mostly sandbox games with physics where these types of mechanisms fit. I know, there are games, that have some of these things.

Practical use for pink flubber impact bracing for a hover craft / vehicle crash resist. Use for ultra heavy blocks needed tracion for small/large vehicles. Uses for lightweight block. Repeatable wings on air vehicles / lowering weight on large slow vehicles. these are decent uses but I'm sure somebody can come up with better.
