The Day the Music Stopped
In the spring of 2020, the announcement that the City of New Orleans, like much of the country would be shut down due to CoVid-19 restrictions threw everyone into a state of anxiety. Of course, for the countless hospitality workers in New Orleans, that meant even basic needs, housing, food, medical care was not attainable. In spite of the hardship, indefinite closure would mean for the owners of Sweet Lorraine's Jazz Club, a legendary live music venue in the city, the concern for the musicians outweighed their own fears. We decided to nourish the bodies of those that had nourished our souls with their incredible talents, and Fish Fry Friday began. Every Friday for 16 weeks, all musicians were welcome to get a free freshly prepared traditional New Orleans "fish plate". The event grew into a time for them to commune and support each other during these difficult times. Fish Fry Fridays culminated with a "Musicians Jam Session" that showcased the incredible talents and resilient spirit of our city's cultural icons. The following is a small excerpt of this event.
