Finally a stereo version of the demo Brian Presented to the Boys after they came back from the worldwide tour. The 12 string you hear hard left, is none other than Billy Strange

Billy Strange didn't bring a guitar to the session. He had just picked up his son, so Brian told him to bring the kid along. He also did not own an electric 12 String that Brian wanted so Brian called Wallich's Music City and bought one and an amp. He paid Billy $500.00 and let him keep the gear

I thought I read that the 12 string, which comes in at 1:40 on the first chorus a third higher, was overdubbed on the original backing track, months after the original had been recorded. Maybe I’m confused. There’s also a standup bass on this session, you can hear at 3:12 or is my ear malfunctioning? Who plays the tambourine (starts at 2:11 )?

I watched a John Denvoir concert from the early 80s and Hal Blane was his drummer for the tour and it was fabulous. Great drummer. Towards the end of this though I'm not so keen on the drumming rhythm where it speeds up at one point. I full appreciate it was deliberate. Just more a musical preference.

@@brianwalendy3735 I don’t think he is the greatest drummer of all time, but his versatility is incredible. Technically, I prefer Stewart Copeland, John Bonham, and a few others. What is your list?

For me only Brian and Carl Wilson can sing this song really well, don't like other versions
Anyone know why the phrase "break up" was used when the more appropriate phrase "broke up" was used in the released version.

cool to hear the demo. no Mike love doing the second verse and the original lyrics from the Kingston trio
@ms85968 жыл бұрын
+triple aught I don't hear Mike Love in here anywhere. It's a well known fact that Brian would lay down all of the scratch vocals, sing all of the parts, before the rest of the band came in to record their vocals. Brian could sing all of their parts. One more reason Pet Sounds should have been his first solo album.
@aircanuck7 жыл бұрын
I'm not hearing Mike Love here either, and that is terrific.
@runnersdialzero12446 жыл бұрын
Brian rarely did scratch vocals for songs, especially "all the parts." When he wrote a song, he'd usually show them their parts at the piano. Pet Sounds is better for the contributions of the group and I'm not sure why people try to slight anyone in the band who isn't Brian.
@slimkickens6 жыл бұрын
@@runnersdialzero1244 Contributions? To Pet Sounds? Carl played some guitar, and Brian usually let Carl do whatever for his guitar riffs. Other than that, no. The other Beach Boys were another instrument at Brian's disposal. The vocal arrangements were entirely his creation
@tjsi635 жыл бұрын
I would dare say that's Tommy Tedesco and Glen Campbell horsing around on guitars before the song begins.

@gostillerz4 жыл бұрын
@Scott Clam Brian made a ton. I have the album where there's 3 different versions for the intro. Mike, Brian and Carl. Brian singing it sounds like crap. Carl's voice is almost too gentile for it. Mike's is the best. But since Al was nagging Brian to do the song for years, he should've gotten a crack at it. He has that little scratchiness in his voice that might have worked.
