It was this band and this band alone that started my love of vocal harmony, they are why I became the singer I am, if one trys to sing all of the vocal harmonies of a BB's track, just working them out is a true test of ones skill. They are not just simple harmonies of a lead vocal, they are complex interwoven, backing vocals, counter vocals and stuff in between. One of the best bands to have ever played music.

The "oooh" and "oooh-wah oooh-wah" harmonies on the second verse in California Girls almost have a transporting quality to them, like through the sound, you can see the sun glinting off of waves while driving down a street lined with palm trees in a hot convertible.

To be fair, back then musicians weren’t selected because of their looks. Nowadays people get the impression that musicians with real talent are nowhere to be found. But that’s not true, the problem is that looks are what’s being selected for by the industry. And if that’s the primary factor for selection then there’s no wonder auto-tune is a necessity today.

Bear in mind too that some of those bogus tracks are really the BBs, but. . . they are alternate takes that had problems and have been "fixed" and digitized. All major bands have tape like this that was stored, even though the alternate versions were never supposed to be heard by the general public.

On certain songs he disliked the sound, such as his lead on "Let Him Run Wild" and his vocal on "When I Grow Up" as he felt it was too whiny. Although I would give almost anything to sound whiny like him. One of the best voices ever.

Brian was such a self sabotage. And, that makes me want to smack him. Always good, but then he does or says these really stupid things. Just enjoy your talent and get on with your life. Maybe it's too late to tell him that, but wish he would have done things differently! So much genius and so much bool sheet!

The benefits of LSD. Brian simply wasn't making music of this kind until then, as great as some of his songs were. It unlocked cascades of heavenly harmonies.
