Pathum's life story is very interesting. The family lost their house to the Tsunami and due to economic difficulties they went through a lot of struggles. His father a good cricketer himself had to give up cricket due to economic problems but coached his little son who showed outstanding talent from a young age. He is a world class talent and is cool under pressure having gone through so much struggle to play cricket. This is not a Sangakkara from a privileged family but equally talented. Very religious and does a lot of charity work for a young boy. He is a credit to the team and his country.

I feel like people are focusing more on a England being complacent narrative than appreciating the fact that SL has an insanely high talent but inconsistent bunch of new kids playing (amongst the 2 uncles) who out of the blue played close to their potential. Nissanka and Kamindu both had FC averages of 60+ both clearly generational talents. Kusal Mendis a freak talent with zero discipline. Kumara a genuine 150kph bowler when fully fit, Vishwa a very talented yet inconsistent young left arm quick etc. On top of this there is a world cup winning warhorse in Mathews, Chandimal and coach ATG WC winning Jayasuriya recently taking over the coaching reigns. Few weeks ago SL beat India thoroughly in an ODI series which no one expected either. Good to see Windies and SL resurgence cricket is richer for having these two once giants coming back into the fray.

They won three series by NOT playing bazball except for Ducket. The team was actually propped by Root and Smith in every match by playing proper test batting. But the moment they started Bazball in the last test of the summer they lost the match. Even in the second test when Root tried to play his signature bazball ramp shot after completing his century he got out not surprisingly

England have no Test quality batsmen apart from Joe Root. The rest average in the mid 30s. They could strike at 200 but that doesn't matter if they average in the mid 30s. The one bloke who averages in the 50s Harry Brook could not survive 30 mins of 6th stump bowling. The bowling... Not one bowlers looks like they could take a wicket overseas... They are going to get trounced in the next Ashes as well....

Regarding pope I think the issue is two fold, firstly he’s too feast or famine for me, secondly we keep hearing how high his potential is and how good he is which means he simply shouldn’t be getting out the way he is, you can’t have it both ways, either he’s amazing or he isn’t, if you say someone’s got amazing potential and they don’t fulfil that often enough then they’re going to get criticised.
@nikitamohan33906 күн бұрын
Why couldn't they ask Phil Salt or some other more capable opener like Cox or something to step in as the replacement opening batsman for an injured Crawley instead of Dan Lawrence??? He doesn't look like he's ready from any angle or has the maturity and temperament to be an international test batsmen for England yet.
@nickchandra48906 күн бұрын
I am very sceptical about Bazzball. Looks like a bad fad. The acid test would have been against the Great West Indian fast bowlers who would have taken Bazzball apart at the seam. All these fads are good till they meet the real enemy. All the 10000+ batters didn't need Bazzball. Joe Root has finally come to his senses and would be best advised to forget this nonsense and play his natural game. He is not a Viv Richards, a Chris Gayle , a Shewag or a Jayasuriya. Those are the guys who had such fantastic hand eye coordination they didn't need any fads but brought fear to the bowlers. Bazzball is just a sheep in Wolf's clothing.

What has england done to say having good time beating wi sl at home, drawing ashes? If bazball is just winning against weaker teams with root scoring then its nothing new
@amitm26927 күн бұрын
They beat NZ & SA at home & tied 1-1 with NZ away (lost 2nd test by 1 run )...& Do u expect England to only play india & AUS all the time....? There are other teams too..... That's how the WTC cycle works....& Btw root has scored against every opposition in every condition...Root has a 50 + avg in SA, NZ, SL, WI, Eng & his average in india is 46 which is highest among all batters of this era....

@@amitm2692 then why hype them up whenever any series ends oh he did well or the other ! Eng is also same as other teams infact they are a weaker side but with greater articles and works on them ! What has bazball acheived not a top 4 spot in wtc even with those "entertaining" cricket

@@saratchandrayalamarthi1057 ENG is a decent team... nothing great & if you remove Root ,they are below average.....but they are much better off under stokes then they were under root with 1 win out of 17....& When you play as many matches like Eng do in a year, u won't win everything... that's how sport works..& WTC concept is a joke when you see the discrepancy in the no of matches all teams play..... at least Eng hasn't lost a home series under stokes unlike AUS who lost to india twice & couldn't win against the west indies......
