Sloppy joes are an all time favourite in my household. I love adding mustard and apple cider vinegar, a little brown sugar also. Looks delicious

Binge watching again! I've watched this episode several times, love the recipe, but I just noticed that box of Hostess Suzy Q's on top of the fridge!! I haven't had one in years!! I loved Suzy Q's, Ding Dongs, Hostess Cupcakes, Ho Ho's and Twinkies! A taste of childhood!! Take care!!
@cavalcadeoffood8 ай бұрын
Hi Greg! We actually have a related video to this sloppy joe episode coming up! Like you, I loved all the Hostess treats growing up. They went bankrupt a number of years ago and stopped producing, and it was a while before another company bought them and Hostess was back on the shelves. I think Twinkies and cupcakes were the first back, but when they re-introduced the Suzy-Q I just had to try them! They were good, but didn't taste as great as I remember, although I was remembering through the taste buds of a 12 year-old! LOL

Best moment of the video Ralph: "Do you want to show people your buns?" Kevin: "I beg your pardon!", a moment worthy of Groucho Marx and Margaret Dumont!

Just watching this takes me back over 50 years to when I was a child watching my mother cook sloppy joe's for dinner. She made them different than you do, but the concept was the same. Plus my mother would never have gotten rid of the fat...fat equals flavor! My mother's cooking, while delicious, was a nutritional nightmare. Oh well, some things are better left as memories.
@cavalcadeoffood8 жыл бұрын
+Howard B Glad it brought back good memories! Yes, fat always has a lot of flavor! I've found that even after draining the excess fat from the pan, there's still enough left in the meat to taste good. Thanks for watching!!

I love watching your channel! Such great recipes and you make it so easy to follow! I was watching this video on my phone the other day as my husband was driving the car. He couldn't see the video, but he was listening to it. After a while, he says, " You know that guy's voice sounds like Tom Selleck." I never thought about it before, but he's right!
@cavalcadeoffood8 жыл бұрын
+Gayle Sharpley Thanks, Gayle! I've never heard that comparison before, so I will have to pay attention to Tom Selleck's voice. I guess if I can't look like him I'll have to settle for sounding like him ;-) Thanks so much for watching!

I made a variation of these tonight, just what we had. Bought some chilli sauce with this in mind and added the allspice and cinnamon. Very good and so different from what I always thought when thinking of sloppy joes.

When I have Sloppy Joes I usually have them open face on a plate. Much easier to eat them with a fork then as a drippy sandwich. Your friend seemed quite anxious to get inside and attack your cooking! ;)

Kevin and Ralph, We love sloppy joes at our house and this recipe looks really good. I really liked that there were so many nice chopped vegetables in it and the mushrooms are something I have never put in when making mine, but will definitely try. I miss my Krogers grocery stores. Had them in Ohio where I grew up. How were those dark rye buns? Love the fact that they were nice and big.
@cavalcadeoffood8 жыл бұрын
+Cathy Aquilina Thanks for watching, Cathy! The mushrooms add some meatiness to the flavor and mix in very well. There is a Kroger very near me, so that is my regular shopping spot. They just remodeled all the stores in Michigan and I enjoy shopping there. The dark rye buns were GREAT!! They had a nice rye/pumpernickel flavor! The onion rolls were more popular, but I enjoyed the rye buns because they were something different. Hope you give the recipe a try!

For the liquid leftover I would refrigerate it then remove the solidified fat from it to then add it back into the recipe or use it as a base for another dish. Thank you for sharing.

The meat would reabsorb the liquid back. That's all the flavor and nutrients in that liquid. I would add a thickener and the other liquids and keep the liquid gold. Gringos don't know what's good anymore. Ralph is right.
