A beautiful trip, this was the best part (but I enjoyed all other parts, too). Just a correction: 9:46 - you were still quite far away from Vršič pass at that point. You rode from Bohinj Lake up to Pokljuka plateau first, and then down on the other side. The climb to Vršič Pass only begins at 20:35. Also, you can just scratch the surface a little bit in three days. Even though Slovenia is tiny, it requires a couple of weeks at minimum to do it justice. I have lived here my whole life, and still haven’t seen everything.

I feel like this tour needed more camera angles other than mounted on your chin. I do appreciate the logistics involved, but one looking back at you occasionally, or. 360 camera so we could see the views you mentioned.... that'd be cool. Workflow sounds like a sod for processing that based on your live stream with chopsy. That rear mount that ItchyBoots has got does look good, I guess you could achieve something similar with a suction cup mount on a top box?

The reason for the cobbles, granite sets actually, on the corners of the Virsic pass is that the road was originally built by the military and the large and sometimes tracked vehicles would just rip up tarmac, cobbles are more durable. My wife and I rode the pass on a K1600GT, from Kranjska Gora over to Bovec in 2014, lovely part of the world.

The Dolomites are about 250 millions years old and are composed mainly of sedimentary rocks and limestone. Today, we can hardly imagine that once the mighty mountains were an enormous coral reef, formed in the primordial ocean called Tethys. .
@diegocella67914 жыл бұрын
I did this one (Vrsic) couple of year ago quite early in the morning, there was less traffic, but have to say the hairpin with cobblestone has their appeal, the old san Gottardo road has them too. And the road (Sella Predil) that go throu italy and slovenia (did this one too the same year) has some kind of quirk as Italy take care of the slovenian side and vice versa...

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dolomites The Dolomites are a mountain range located in northeastern Italy. They form a part of the Southern Limestone Alps and extend from the River Adige in the west to the Piave Valley (Pieve di Cadore) in the east. The northern and southern borders are defined by the Puster Valley and the Sugana Valley (Italian: Valsugana). The Dolomites are nearly equally shared between the provinces of Belluno, South Tyrol and Trentino.

Looking at the color of the cliffs, it is chalk and that’s the same stone as in the Dolomites. They are millions of years old reefs, pushed up by Africa coming towards Europe. The continent I mean,not the people😉. I only know the Alps from summer; visited them year after year... I went to Norway and Germany because the Alps became too busy with tourists. If the mountains are made of chalk, the weathering is probably caused by water, not glaciers. In Norway you’ll find very clear u-shaped valleys.
@valentintapata22684 жыл бұрын
It's mostly limestone, and yes glaciers shaped the valleys. There are still two small glaciers in Slovenia, the third one is gone, but they are getting smaller by the year.

Dolomite is a stone..So if it looks like the Dolomites its probably Dolomite. 😉
@palantir1354 жыл бұрын
Valentin Tapata limestone, I couldn’t remember that word. I agree but I think the shape of the valleys now is more by weathering by water than ice. I mean the distinguished U shape is not so visible anymore. Go to Norway and all valleys are very much U shaped..

Surprised that it is civilised? LOL there are few countries as quintessentially European as Slovenia as it is a meeting place of 4 major European regions, 4 cultural circles and 4 different languages. Also, it wasn't a part of the Eastern block, that was the whole point of Yugoslavia, that it was balancing between the two blocks. It is certainly much less one-dimensional as some of the land-locked countries... I won't mention any names....
