15 minutes later, we were live again! Something had interrupted the gasket-pin mechanism, and re-seating it, and resetting it has us working again. Excellent video. Probably saved us $150 in fees, and saved some poor plumber from having to come and waste his time doing same.

Thank you! My husband and I have complained about our slow filling toilet for months! I watched your video and did exactly as you explained. There were several pieces of plastic blocking the pin! Removed and flushed out with cup over (great tip!), and voila! Fixed! I felt so accomplished. I told my husband he owned me a pizza. He paid up😂 Thank you!!!

I found this very helpful. I knew I could replace the full valve if I needed to, but hoped I could repair my existing one. Turns out there was a small pebble that had surfaced. I found the instructions on how to take the valve apart to inspect the piece very clear. Worked like a charm. Thanks!

Thank you for actually explaining the part about holding the stem so the whole unit doesn't twist! Looking at other instructionals they twisted the top off no problem so i didn't understand why i couldn't. I popped the cap off as well to get a better grip on the top, and used the arm, as u mentioned, to help twist it. I also appreciate that you said you can cover it with just your hand, and slowly turn the water on to flush it out, instead of going to get a cup. So relieved and grateful i was able to avoid the hassle of calling someone, especially since it's such a simple fix, that you demonstrated well!!!

Thank you, Mr Hardware, you saved me a visit from my landlord’s “handyman”, who created the problem (debris in the cap after another plumbing job he did in the house) in the first place. He’s a menace. You’re a lifesaver.

Wow! I’m so grateful to have found your video. As a single woman, I hate to call strangers to do work in my home. I really do. I knew my hissing toilet wasn’t difficult to resolve but the thought of removing that shaft made me wanna call a plumber because it was very tricky when I tried to remove it years ago add it leaked and leaked and leaked and I ended up still having to call a plumber. Before finding this video, I always thought you had to change out the shaft but thanks to you for showing me that the fill valve was all that needed to be replaced and vola! My hissing toilet is history (at least for a couple of years or so). Thank you for a wonderful well explained video!

I had the same issue with my toilet not filling after a flush. Found this video which was a great help. One suggestion, flush your tank first so it's almost empty, unclip the adjusting pin that connects to the float, now you will have alot more room to grip the shaft and twist the top cap off easily. Hope this helps.

I had NO clue about 1/4 turning the cap to get what I call "Toilet Stones" out. And also had no clue about the replacement seal. I bought a new one yesterday, and probably simply following these steps I could have saved a few bucks. I still got the stones after installing the new ones because of all the sediment in the tank must have gotten down into my water line when I drained the tank to replace the Fludimaster. Thank you so much! Such an easy fix for an annoying problem. If I may add a couple things... for the absolute novice like me, it's good to let people know to 'turn the water off' first, lol... and my valve had quite a build-up of slimy stuff on it, so I washed it off, in case that was part of the problem. Keep up the great work :)

Mr Hardware! You rock! I use a toilet fill valve outdoors as the autofill for my pool. the first two lasted 5 years each which is what you pretty much said. But I've been trying to install this last one and it would work for a few weeks and then the float would rise up but the water would still run. I used your trick to open up the top and low and behold there was a little pebble in there. Problem solved. you saved me a lot of time replacing it again with a new one.

Super video! I just fixed two toilets in the house that would not fill back up unless I opened the cover and tapped on the float/valve. I did take the gasket out and cleaned it well before reinstalling. Both seals had an imprint from what they seal against, which could have caused them to mesh together. Then again, they both did feel a little bit sticky before I washed them off. I expect my fix might be temporary, so I will pick up a couple of those seals the next time I am at the hardware store.

This was really helpful. My FluidMaster 400A stopped working. We are self-isolating due to covid-19. Getting a plumber right now is near impossible. Even getting the part from a hardware store is really difficult. So I opened the unit up and found all kinds of rust and calcium deposits. I flushed the unit out with the top assembly off and picked out the larger bits of rust and calcium. Voila! it is working again. I'll still get it replaced when things open up again but for now thank you thank you thank you.

Thanks for video to show how easy it was to replace the fill valve seal by twisting off cap. I have done it twice now. The first time fixed the problem. But not the second. The problem was the float did not return up after the flush but got stuck in down position. A light tap on float and it would rise up allowing water to fill tank. The fix was still to remove the cap to move float down and clean off scum on fill tube and put it back together. Over the years the fill tube collected scum on outside and float was getting stuck going back up.

hi. thank you. great video. all seems good but when I flush there is no water filling into the over flow. it only starts if I shut off the water supply and turn it right back the fill starts. does this pro 420 gasket or replacement seal have anything to do with that particular issue. water trickles down the arm but nothing out the hose into the overflow pipe, unless I turn off the water supply and back on. if time permits, let me know. thx. you.

Can you explain how motion of that little pin turns the flow on and off? I just don’t get it. The pin just moves up and down through the center of the gasket but it doesn’t open or close anything.
@MrHardware15 жыл бұрын
Ready? The pin has a reduced diameter about 1/4" up from the tip. Water flows through the thinner part of the pin, gets above the gasket and water pressure pushes it down sealing the water. Similar to a Sloan commercial flush valve.
@kkman30kVw4 жыл бұрын
@@MrHardware1 Also, if you examine the gasket carefully, specifically the stem part, you'll see there are 2 small holes that are perpendicular to the center hole in the gasket. Interesting hydraulics combined with the pin that cause the gasket to move and stop the flow of water. One of these small holes was blocked on my gasket and unblocking fixed it.
@johannemichel61523 жыл бұрын
I already had done that and noticed the middle part of the rubber is ripped off. Like the little circle where you put the pin in,is completely detached from the rest of the rubber. Would that explain why the toilet isnt filling up? I dont see how it could logical be for that reason but the rest of the parts are fine. Edit: Nvm,its logical. When the pin goes up the,rubber doesnt go up with it. It stays down so it stops the water from coming out.
