Very excited by the Roxy’s Journal of Stitchery prompt for the month of June which is to create a slow stitch vessel or bowl.
The version I’m going to share with you is very easy to make from little scraps of fabric on a felt or blanket base, and to decorate with simple slow stitching stitches.
My piece is inspired by a poem by the incredible Mary Walker titled Wild Fruit. Please check out Mary Walker’s website and instagram:
www.marywalker...

With thanks to Rachel ‪@roxycreations679‬ and Sarah ‪@roxycreationsbysarah‬ for yet another fun project prompt! So many ideas whizzing around my head! I don’t believe you will ever run out of great ideas!
With thanks too to Annie Claxton from ‪@artyfartyannie‬ who got me started on this fabric panel as part of her Colour inspirations project earlier this year.
I hope you enjoy this idea and tutorial to make an easy slow stitch container or vessel using scraps of fabric. And maybe you want to take a poem or piece of writing as inspiration too!

Thank you Kathryn - it’s such a beautiful poem to spend time with stitching. Isn’t it wonderful how our textiles allow us to explore and evoke so much. Cheers, Christine

Amazing work and definitely expresses the themes of the poem you chose. I love how the container is so busy yet balanced. The varieties or stitching really unites the piece. Beautiful work!

Beautiful project😊 Yes. I also have all sorts of containers and stuff on my table. And you are right - it is often the little pieces of fabric and thread that lie on the table that are being used😂

Thank you Christine for your video and what a lovely poem and your interpretation in your piece. Never worry a tidy desk is the sign of a cluttered mind they say😂😂 and research showed that creativity flowed with a messy desk in many cases especially with crafters so we are good to go!!. Here in the UK it is supposed to be summer 🙄🤔 we are waiting, so it is strange to hear you talk of winter , I always assumed it was hot all year just varying degrees. I imagine there are climate differences throughout the country. Have a great weekend and lovely walks.

Thank you Carol for your kind reassurance. I have definitely heard that messy desk and creative link made before and also intelligence too. Here in Sustralia we don’t get the same level of chill as you in the UK but the mountains do get snow and it can definitely be frosty in the mornings with icy winds at times. I hope you get a temperate summer soon. Cheers, Christine

Wow! That's gonna be a great slow stitch vessel! I love how you can go to the reverse art truck and find something that you wouldn't normally think of as using in your stitching but it always seems to work great. I can't wait to see you working on it more, have a great holiday weekend! TFS 😊

Such a great idea to use your colour inspiration block to make a container 🫙 out of. Aww love all the different stitches and there is something about blue looks so relaxing and somehow warm, yep it’s a lovely sunny day here but brrrr brass money weather, lol 😜. Will watch this and just relax as I slowly recuperate. Still homeward mend and lovely u tubes to watch what more can a girl ask for, well maybe I could stitch a little.

I won't be making a vessel but this was so helpful to see how you layered the pieces on each side. It's kind of like a snippet roll I've been wanting to make. Blues are my favorite and I love the variety of patterns you selected. I also saw the next video where you added all the embellishments. So many wonderful pieces! Thank you for the inspiration and fun chats as you work! ❤

Thank you,Christine for reminding the beautiful poem! I love how you have represented it in this piece! Your method of folding the felt is so clever, when I'm going to stitch or construct something I say to myself how would Christine do this😅my mind doesn't work well with construction and reasoning! Have a wonderful long weekend! Ciao❤

Looking great Christine TFS . I’m not sure if I want to go big or small was thinking of making my self a waste bin for my craft room or just a small vessel for bits and bobs . Can’t wait for July got my books and fabrics ready . Oh just had to buy a book I’d been looking at and thinking ummm if I don’t buy it it’s going on my Christmas list but as soon as the girls said what the prompt was that’s it went straight into the basket . Just been delivered will take some photos and post in the group x
