Slow Stitching -Completing Tiny Nature Fabric Scroll

Welcome! My name is Jo. Join me to complete the Slow Stitching a Fabric Scroll inspired by Birds, Animals and Nature. In this 3rd and final episode of the multi-part workshop, we add a backing, embellish the back with Spiraled Blanket Stitch and discuss options for winding the scroll for display. The Scroll is 2 1/2 inches wide and 28 inches long, and the animal shapes are made with my mini templates in part one. There are lots of tips and ideas for creating your own scroll and working intuitively. This project is perfect for recycling or repurposing fabric. So join me and embellish and complete your scroll!

Beautiful!! I love this so much! There are finishing choices I think I would have done differently, like using the yellow and orange ribbons and a broken off dowel. I think I would color in some of the blocks in the spiral blanket stitches on the back too. I love that your style and presentation "release" us into our own creative expression, encouraging us to do what pleases our own eye and senses. Thank you! Looking forward to the next one! ❤

Before attaching the backing wouldnt it be easier to do all the stitching on the backing, then you wouldn’t have to be careful about the stitches going thru to the front side? Would like your thoughts. Thank you.💖

Yes that’s another way to do it. I’d recommend placing something behind your backing piece before stitching like another piece of fabric or another length of felt. Depending on the thickness of the fabric or felt it may make the scroll thicker which is totally fine. I prefer to stitch into the felt batting that’s already there but there are no have-to’s! Do whatever makes the most sense for your project. Happy Stitching!😊🧵🪡
