I found many inspiring moments in this video. I'm going right now to my back yard to find something to stitch around, maybe a twig. The time I spent watching the video was worth it. Thank you!

Hi Daniela: Thank you for this great idea! I’m so new to slow stitching, but I think this would be a good project. I have lots of artificial leaves and flowers that I use for crafting and plenty of fabric. I’m excited to get started. 💜😎🇺🇸

This is great! As someone else mentioned, I wonder how the leaf will look after time. I have some larger leaves that I soaked in glycerin last summer and want to try out in projects. I've considered painting one one or actually stitching onto the leaf. Do you have experience with glycerin soaked leaves? or with actually stitching through leaves?
@DanielaMellen
@DanielaMellen 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks. I think the glycerine soaked leaves will be preserved and remain more "lifelike" when used in stitching. While you can try stitching through or into the leaf, I would be concerned about the stitches (closest to the edges) tearing or 'bleeding' glycerine or some substance.

@@DanielaMellen oh, I didn't consider or realize that the glycerine might bleed. Thanks.

I like this for a seasonal of leaves ….Have you ever done a piece where fabric is used to make a window pane and then sew these pieces, to make the pane, to main piece of fabric that has scenery as its pattern ….. I think that would be pretty in a booklet

Yes I do! The leaf is dry and brittle, and off color, but still intact. I did a follow up video kzbin.info/www/bejne/jWexhqxneJ54gKs showing some of the deterioration. Thanks for asking!

For the leaf die and shrivel up later on?
@DanielaMellen
@DanielaMellen 6 ай бұрын
That's true, the leaf dries. It''s a different effect and one that I like. The stitching has contained the dried leaf, years later. Stitching found objects, or specifically leaves, may not be a technique that you prefer.

How will that keep the leaf in place once it dries op?
@DanielaMellen
@DanielaMellen 2 жыл бұрын
The leaf should keep in place because the stitches create a cage. If the variety of leaf is highly brittle, than the leaf could eventually crumble. So, if you want to use a leaf, as opposed to a feather or something longer lasting, choose a variety that is more durable, use an artificial leaf, or a preserved one. I may do a video with an update of the leaf since many people are curious. Thanks for asking.

This is cute but won’t the leaf eventually just dry up and you’ll be left with some threads which crisscrossed it originally?
@DanielaMellen
@DanielaMellen 2 жыл бұрын
That's a very good question. There is a good possibility that could happen. So far, it's been a few months, it's dried, but still intact. I think a lot depends on the type of leaf used and how the piece is stored. I store my flat, in a dry area.

Will the leaf shrink when it dries out?
@DanielaMellen
@DanielaMellen 2 жыл бұрын
Most probably. I'll keep you posted as to how much, but I suspect that will vary by type of leaf, etc. These are from a flowering bush, and will become dry and paperlike. But, I think the stitching will hold it in place, unless it decays into pieces.
