Imagine being in a small club seeing them and 3 guitars playing swelled reverb creating heavenly spaced out sounds.

I saw them at Showbox SODO which fits like 2000 people. I was near the front like 20 feet away from the stage. Quite possibly one of the clearest shows I've ever heard, shit made me cry twice.

So true. I saw them supporting Cranes in London when they just released Souvlaki, and started with Machine Gun, guitars swirling like angels singing before the song started. Sent chills through me, bought the album the next day, and still listen to it now I'm 60. Fantastic band.

Wow! This recording definitely rocks! I used to listen and listen and listen this album 30 years ago and I stll feel the same sensations now that I'm 56. I let my son hear this version in the hope it can be given like a wonderful gift.

Exactly my opinion too. They were great back in the first phase of their career. They're even better now. The years have been kind and lent an extra dimension of maturity and complexity to their music. I also get the impression that they're pretty decent people.

The advantage of better amplifiers, effects equipment et al is like giving a vintage racing driver an even better machine, when they were already getting incredibly good performances from what they were using 30-35yrs ago....

Divine sadness. Duende. Beautiful.

Divine sadness is a beautiful way to describe a lot of their music. I've never heard that phrase before. Thank you for sharing this. "and I want the world to cry"
@PaisleyPatchouli Жыл бұрын
@@dpclerks09 thanks for your comments. The concept of divine sadness is certainly not new from me, it's been around since long before I have. See if you can do a little bit of a deep dive on the term duende and especially how it relates to both flamenco music and Iberian culture. You may discover some interesting takes and ideas and maybe even music that you will find useful. I hope so anyway... Just be aware that it has fairly distinctive dual meanings; first, the one that we are talking about having to do with deep personal feelings and emotional / philosophical content in art and music. And second: a rather folksy and legendary type of creature, like a cross between maybe a Hobbit and a fairy or even a goblin, that usually lives under your floors or even behind the walls of your house. It takes its cues from the owners behavior, and emotional state, and can basically bless you if you are kind and good, and conversely, can curse you or cause you bad luck if you exhibit bad behavior. Although amusing and maybe even in some ways applicable, this is not really the aspect of duende that I refer to here. I just thought I should mention it as you will no doubt encounter references to it if you explore the duende concept. :-)

I love them all, but Simon and Nick are the backbone of this band, It went to hell when they weren't there on the 3rd album. I liked Pygmalion.... but yeah, it just wasn't the same. You need all 5 original members or it just isn't Slowdive. Simple as that.
