This is one of my faves from them. Whenever I listen to it, I feel my brain melting, my body dissolving, my self ascending to the swirling, hazy and droning reverbed guitars. Neil's languid singing and Rachel's harmonies elevated me as high as I could, until when the song's over, in which I'm back to reality again.

Morningrise is still their best. Even among their videos and album/ep covers! Really wish this song could be brought back into their 2023 tour setlist.

from kisses to this, and from this to kisses, slowdive has so many shades within it is easy to feel mesmerized. From a 90's song like Morningrise to a 2023's song like Kisses, Slowdive still manages to keep the etherial dream flowing through about 4 minutes ,until I hit replay again.
@Ivan-cl9hc3 ай бұрын
Completely agreed, I love how fresh their current live setlist sounds, there's so much variety between the all guitar songs and synths/guitar songs. Such a rich and full sound without any samples or prerecorded tracks. It just leaves you wanting for more of it haha.

This is an absolute BANGER. It’s definitely one of my favorites from the “Just For A Day” era. I literally get set into another dimension for the entire duration of this song! “Looking around I see you slip away / you seem more beautiful than yesterday” hits so different, and I don’t really know why. I think it’s because the production kicks into overdrive at that part. Anyway, such a PHENOMENAL song.
@pgbear11 ай бұрын
I agree. When this song first came out I recall telling some student friends of mine, that I would like to live inside this song. I still feel the same way. It really does transport me to another world. The power of music. The power of Slowdive!!

Martin Nichols did a perfect job of the production on this. They had some really gifted producers and engineers around that time like John Leckie and Alan Moulder. I've done some amateur production work in the past and I appreciate how incredibly difficult it is to get this kind of music with so many effects to not sound like a muddy mess.

Alan Moulder is a genius. He was behind so much of the shoegaze sound. Duplicate the guitar track, and slightly alter the EQ banding on each guitar is one of the big secrets of this wall of sound.

Absolutely gorgeous. That huge roar of a guitar, similar to Shields's glide sound, soaring like a jetstream over the slowed-down disco beat, gives the whole piece a thrilling edge which you can hardly imagine any of today's bands even beginning to attempt. A beautiful, dreamlike journey.

Saw these cats twice this year and met some of the members. It must be true what they say: some people were born to be cool and stay young forever! Musically this song and EP is one my favourites by anyone. Visually, I think they all look great here, but the final focus on Rachel's angelic face is such a perfect finish. Beautiful noise indeed 😊
@pgbear4 жыл бұрын
My favourite music video of all time. Perfectly complements the music and even lifts it to another level. Sheer perfection in every way. Have watched this video hundreds of times since I first saw it in 1991 on a BBC Two music show called, I think, Snub TV.

I REALLY regret not being into Slowdive. At the time there were great bands like Orbital, Shamen, Prodigy on the dance side and Lush in the shoegaze scene. Slowdive though, experienced and skillful guitarists. They have been around for decades.

This song has a heavy feel to it, and yet it's also textbook shoegaze with a thick wall of sound. It's just not of the aerial kind of shoegaze we hear on the follow-up album, JFaD. I still have this EP sealed in its original wrapping!!! Interestingly, I think Slowdive has been revisiting their heavier side with their latest album "everything is alive".
