+aex hooder shoegaze influenced just about everything you hear these days...but in the early 90's (before the internet and cell phones), you had to know the right people to find out about this genre (dating back--arguably--to brian eno and pink floyd).
@michaelgass43219 жыл бұрын
+Danielle Brown brilliant observation. i agree the ambient sounds of eno and floyd was the genesis of this scene. interestingly, rachel goswell of slowdive was a massive fan of the smiths. neil halstead incorporated the pink floyd ambient guitar sound implementing guitar petals.
@matthewlewis20728 жыл бұрын
See also MBV "Loveless", Ride "Nowhere", Chapterhouse "Whirlpool". Shoegazing was derived from wall of sound type music dating back to 60s, including more recent stuff like JAMC. The scene was destroyed by sneering media and the horrible Britpop. Echoes can still be seen in the likes of Interpol ("Untitled" from "Turn on the Bright lights").
@POPNDOUGH8 жыл бұрын
I always felt shoegaze was like Dinosaur Jr, and Husker Du crossed with The Cure, and the Jesus and Mary Chain. Adding to SS999's list, Swervedriver, Lush, and Ecstasy of Saint Theresa's "Susurrate" are all good. Also, Smashing Pumpkins from 1991-1996 were pretty heavily shoegaze influenced. Ringo Deathstarr are a good current shoegaze-y band.

George Vernon isn’t that pretty rad though? I mean a bunch of people who found a style of music that they all could embrace and enjoy and supported one another by turning up to each other’s gigs even if no one else didn’t. I wouldn’t agree with critics that that’s “a scene that celebrates itself” more so just people who loved the music and wanted to make and listen to it all the time.
