Lyrics
Sweet thing, I watch you
Burn so fast it scares me
My game, please don't leave me
Come so far, don't lose me
It matters where you are
As the sun hits, she'll be waiting
With the coffins under heaven
Hey hey lover, you're still burning
You're his song yeah (hey hey)
Sweet thing, I watch you
Burn so fast it scares me
My game, don't lose me
Come so far don't lose me
It matters where you are
As the sun hits, she'll be waiting
With the coffins under heaven
Hey hey lover, you're still burning
You're his song yeah (hey hey)
Sweet thing I watch you (burn away)

What a wonderful description. So very true. Going through that period as a young man in his late teens the point of @luadmo4117 being the album happening in a tough time in their life but still lamenting its passsing is brilliant.

"It matters where you are." that line changed my whole view on life. The past doesn't define you, don't let it haunt you, it matters what you're doing now. If you've changed for the better, then that's all that matters. It matters where you are.

For some reason this song captures the feelings of having a crush on someone you know you’ll never end up with. Someone just so inaccessible and different than you that you don’t even bother, yet you can’t get them off your mind. The poignancy of this feeling hurts.

That's bullshit .How do you know you love someone If you never been with that person ?It's a crush ,you just "love " the looks of a person ,so you fantasize about her in your head like she's perfect ,but you'll never know what what you acctually feel until you date that "special" somebody .Seriosly ,people should stop thinking love is an impulse to have someone without even knowing the person .And don't get me wrong ,i've been this way myself ,But we gotta move on and grow up .

This song reminds me of someone who i loved. We were on a bus, she was heading home and i don't knew where i was going. But i don't wanted to be home. Suddenly she passes me one earplug, and said something like "do you know slowdive?". I was into grunge and punk at the moment. I said no. Then this starts playing on my left ear. I don't really wanted the bus to stop anytime soon, i wanted (and still want) to live in that moment forever. She got over me and moved to another city to study. I'm still here getting high to this song. And i'm pretty sure that particular bus still drives on the streets. With different lovers in it. Heading home or nowhere.

My grandma passed away on thanksgiving, worst holiday of my life. She practically raised me when my mother couldn’t, and being the oldest I had to help raise my siblings. Guess who helped me when it got hard? She did. It was as if a part of me was ripped away from my hands and I could never get it back. I love her with my whole being. I listened to this song shortly after her funeral, and it’s as if she wanted me to hear it. It makes me feel like I’m still reaching for her warm embrace when I’d cry for her. I miss her so much. This song helped me calm down after breaking down about her passing. Thank you.

When your feelings for someone were so intense, they were a part of your identity. Part of what made you who you are, and you don't know how to exist without them. I've been there. I have to remind myself that I'm not in love with someone. I did for so long, it was a part of me, but it never would have worked out, and I'm ok with that. I really am. Ryan Krankowski Many rock classics also experience such critical flack, just take a look at Led Zeppelin, all their albums were panned by critics. I agree that this is perhaps one of the best-crafted rock album ever made, and the critics’ comments on this album back then are now jokes, even the prank joke that inspire the album’s title is much better.

this song reminds me of all the people who i’ve grown so far apart from but once were super close- it’s crazy how one moment in time someone knows everything about you and you know everything about them then you just become complete strangers who never talk anymore. It’s not due to conflicts but just life happening and slowly you drift apart which causes it to not necessarily be sad but relived that you got to have that experience in the first place

From time to time I come back to this song and many others, I read the comments and I start to cry really hard because of the amount of vulnerable emotions people talk about in the comments. I find those feelings so intimate and it makes me crave so bad to have a soul to soul, mind to mind and body to body connection with someone. I just want one person to love and to love me back. I’m just 19 but I never had a first love yet. Boys were never interested in me. For me it is really hard to let a person in. I tried to let someone in a few months ago for the first time but he never really liked me and only wanted me for his s*xual pleasure but I didn’t want to rush into anything and he didn’t like that so we broke up. He was the first guy I ever kissed. Two weeks after the break up I kissed another guy at the club cuz I was drunk. We started talking a lot and became friends. We went out a few more times at the club and kissed everytime. He seems to really like me and I like him too but I just don’t feel that spark that everyone is talking about. We went out just the two of us and we talked a lot and he stared to hug me and be more touchy but I just don’t like to be touched like that. He didn’t do anything wrong or inappropiate. It’s just that I have so much anxiety with new people and s*xual stuff makes me unconfortable. The first guy always put pressure on me to do stuff but I just wanted to have a connection with someone first and than go on with s*xual stuff. It is probably not a big deal but I just wanted to say what I feel in a place that I feel safe. I hope everyone is safe and I wish you an amaizing life.

@@NaumB i disagree. i’m a 16 year old girl and i’ve met many different kinds of boys. there was only one that gave me a different kind of feeling. we instantly clicked. i don’t believe in soulmates, but i do believe in special connections that are different than most. i was young and immature(still am) but i took it for granted and let him go. i’ve let other relationships go and felt nothing quite like i did that time. this is not meant to be rude, i just think it’s very important that people don’t settle for less. sometimes, enjoying a conversation with them isn’t enough. you’ve got to have that indescribable feeling. i hope you can understand what i’m saying. please don’t settle until you’ve found the one!

hey. I just want you to know that it's okay to not feel a connection with people at first. It took me a long time to connect with people and come to terms with who I am as a person, but that's alright. maybe that's just me. it doesn't mean you're 'behind', it's just who you are. if it's a good person, they will understand. I don't believe in "true" love, but I believe you can find true affection. I hope you find happiness, and whatever that leads you to.

Happy 25th anniversary, Souvlaki! A failure when it was released in 1993,yet thanks to the internet and its influences on important bands(Spiritualized,Beach House...), it has gained respect over time. So much that it has earned its place in the holy trinity of shoegaze (Loveless,Souvlaki and Nowhere). Untouchable albums and completely essential for those who want to enter into the shoegaze genre. Its success nowadays is well deserved, receiving your prize after disappearing for two decades. Not an album for its time but a hidden message between the grunge and britpop scenes for the new generations to come, enjoy and listen to it religiously. Congratulations!

@fox pals they can still be influenced by a band thats later than them. Michael Stipe said Radiohead were a major influence on REMs sound for example. But i agree they dont sound alike. Maybe slow songs on ladies and gentlemen? Nonetheless im not sure slowdive did influence much until stuff like beach house era, but thats why its treasure to people.ethereal heart pulling trippy stuff, obviously people would like that! yet few and far between, and some oasis and grunge fans saying its 'too wet' may have made it uncool to some. *Actually Ride influenced a lot, like oasis, proto-britpop for better or worse. *And MBV, well a heck ton too long to mention, included earlier slowdive who had demo cassettes that kind of sound like mbv mixed with cocteau twins almost to a pastiche.

for me, this song is about death and rebirth. its enigmatic in that sense that it has made me feel like no other song in the world, killing me from the inside then reviving me in four perfect minutes. long story short, i met slowdive when i was 17 and too young to do anything, it was one of the best days of my teen years. my grandfather had also developed cancer that same summer and i felt it deep in my stomach that i would never see him walk, let alone live again. the feeling still lives with me in the present, knowing that there isn't anything i can do to save anyone we lost. at 18 i finally saw slowdive live and was front row and centre. when this song came on, the feeling in my stomach came back briefly and but i remember rachel looking in my eyes and smiling and the agonizing discomfort subsided for a moment. to this day, hearing when the sun hits live is a highlight of every concert I'd seen. i came home that night quite late and found upon arrival that grandpa had just passed as i was gone. i think it is beautiful that i have this song to remember him by, even if he has never heard it in his life i like to think one day we will reunite and i will get to share with everyone all the beautiful earthly things that made our stay here worthwhile. thanks for reading this far, thank you for existing. this song and this band have so many valuable memories attached for us all, which is why were here

No se como explicar lo que me hace sentir esta canción, es nostalgia, es tristeza, es alegría, todo junto. Desde que descubrí Souvlaki, no hubo otro disco que me haya llegado tan profundamente. Gracias Slowdive, gracias 90s!

This song reminds me the long train ride back home after a day spent with an important but now gone person. When the sun setting on the horizon and the languid emotions moving inside of you. Memories, wondering where is she now.

I just played this song for my 70 year old folks. I told them my 19yo and I are seeing Slowdive when they come to Sydney next month and that they might like this song. Played it all the way through - no reaction. I just don't get how someone could not have an emotional response to a song this gorgeous.
