A lot more people in the United States think they are middle-class then probably who actually are middle class. When you narrow it down to the people that actually have all the attributes that make you middle class only about a third of all Americans possess all of these traits. The big problem, though, is that the economy needs the middle class in order to thrive and as the years go by the middle classes slowly being driven to extinction

This (Property Tax Increase) is happening in Toronto, Canada. They are granting relief for people that are over the age of 60 that meet specific requirements. I do think you may be right about the rate hikes possibly not going to happen. This time last year, the Bank of Canada told the public that there would be no rate increases but they did in both February and March. This year they give hope again, which will probably trick people into rates and terms that they wish they hadn't taken. Historically, data will prove that it takes a few years after rate hikes for them to start going down by 25/50 basis points incrementally over a number of years. Though the after the market crash of 2008, it reshaped that need for consumer spending by dropping the rates at a faster than usual pace.

Michael, supermarket prices in Australia have gone up 20% in the previous three years. Prices in the previous decade (2010 to 2020) went up just 8% over the ten years. Something is crooked and between our governments and WEF, we are all under attack. Keep talking about this.

Building wealth from nothing involves consistent saving, disciplined spending, and strategic investments. Begin by creating a budget to track expenses and identify areas for savings. Prioritize paying off high-interest debt and establishing an emergency fund. As you build a foundation, start investing in low-cost options like index funds, and focus on continuous learning and improving your skills for better income opportunities.

Due to my demanding job, I lack the time to thoroughly assess my investments and analyze individual stocks. Consequently, for the past seven years, I have enlisted the services of a fiduciary who actively manages my portfolio to adapt to the current market conditions. This strategy has allowed me to navigate the financial landscape successfully, making informed decisions on when to buy and sell. Perhaps you should consider a similar approach.

Grew up middle class, but never made it out of lower class. Despite a college degree that I worked my way through, I answer “no” to all the questions. Now, I’m 73, still working at whatever jobs I pick up that I can do. I will never retire. I’ll work until I drop and hope I don’t live much longer after that. I have no family left. Because people keep doing the same thing over & over expecting a different outcome, meaning that the majority of the voter's (or so we're led to believe) continue to vote for the Democratic party when It's the Democrat's policies that are and have been for many decades detrimental to the middle class. Democrats crave higher taxes & increased regulations to help pay for their socialistic welfare state. But as the late Maggie Thatcher, Prime Minister of the UK was famous for saying "Socialism is only fun & dandy as long as other people's money is available, but when that pot of gold has been emptied then the music stops & everybody collects their hats & coats & starts heading for the door. @@danielle1103

Thursday, I drove two hours to go to an antique car junkyard, one of the last around to look for a couple of trim parts for my 1957 Ranchero, in which I didn't find, but oh well. I took a few minutes and sat on the hood of an old car and looked around at all the old cars from the 40's to the 70's that haven't been cremated yet. I thought of the people that drove the cars and how their life was so much better in many ways than today. We produced almost everything we consumed back then before so-called free trade and Nafta destroyed the little people and made the rich even richer. What a sobering moment, and I shed a tear for all we have lost. 3/4er's of the American people were either middle class or upper class back then and bought a new car on average every four years and weren't in fear of going to a doctor and being financially ruined for doing so. People would work and did work back then with very few looking for a handout and would give the shirt off their back to help someone in need. Then I get a distracting notification from my stupidphone, and I know why, people used to want to be anything from a doctor to a factory worker, now most young people want to be a do nothing, internet influencer, producing nothing but garbage.

The American economy will not function if to many people are retired. Due to our debt based system we need velocity of money which leads to higher taxation through multiple transactions. The last report I looked at showed that with current life expectancy if people retired at 65 the system would collapse between 2040-2050. This is why "they" are making it so you can never retire, work till you die. Only a small fraction of the population will be allowed to enjoy their life going forward. The rest of of will be nothing more than tax chattel.

Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, if you will. What was given, can be taken away, and now we're living it. There's essentially a "great sorting" happening on every level. Economically, everyone is being moved either up to nobility or down to peasantry. Being this "neutral" middle class isn't an option anymore. We are being sorted and no, nothing can stop it. Nobody wants to be in the middle class. They want to be in the upper class and surrounded by luxury. That's the problem. These things people say that the middle class should be able to afford, yeah, no, those are upper class things. Ask anyone who was a working adult back in the 50's and 60's during the so called golden era of the middle class. They'll tell you air conditioning was a luxury item back then. A second car was a luxury item back then. College was a luxury item back then (other than for veterans on the GI Bill). Owning more than one TV (4 air channels only) was a luxury item. Cafe latte's, nope. A vacation other than a once per year road trip to Wally world, nope. And on and on. People are envisioning/referencing to something that never happened. It really wasn't all that great for the middle class back then, so why would you expect it to be all rainbows and gumdrop smiles now. The propaganda machine, that's how. You've been brainwashed by the upper class to spend all your money including money you don't have chasing a fantasy. And they are happy to take your money.

True. Yet, it is also a fact that it was normal to have three to five kids in average family without a need to work two jobs for both parents. Yes, those were luxuries back then because they were new or newly available. As costs came down, more folks could afford them and they were no longer seen as luxuries, but necessities. That 2 adult, 3-5 child household lived in a 1000 sqft three bedroom house in the 1950's. Later in the 1960's it jumped up to a massive 1300 sqft. I could go on for several more paragraphs delineating the major differences between the actual middle class and today's fantasy of the middle class, but you should get the picture by now. It sucked. It was not a life of luxury. You can say there are young people struggling today, but its not because the opportunity to start from zero and eventually become a member of the middle class is out of reach. Right now that opportunity is basically at all time highs. Some young people are struggling because they want to go from zero to upper class in five years, and when it doesn't happen then it must be someone else's fault. Its the Boomers! Its the government! Its everyone but me! And I am not a Boomer, BTW. I am Gen X. Pretty much no one that is currently alive had it as bad as we did during our young adulthood. The middle class dream was on life support for a while there in the 1990's. Miraculous recovery since then.

@@alexandersuvorov2002 I am pointing out that the average/median home today is perhaps four or five times "more" than the average/median home in the 1950's. It is currently over twice as large and chock full of luxury, high dollar upgrades. Most homes didn't even include cabinetry back then, for example, in the kitchen and bathrooms. It didn't include appliances. You owned that stuff as if it was furniture and moved it from home to home. When you bought a house the kitchen was an empty room with hookups and that's it. You brought your own sink. It's just not an apples to apples comparison. Then there is everything else. You didn't have internet back then, cell phones, subscriptions to every darn thing. Every "bum" has a smartphone, including 3 year old kids. Does that make any sense? 3 year old toddlers with their own smartphone (and tablet). Of course not, its ridiculous. You made almost all your meals at home. There was almost no eating out. The home spouse had a sewing machine and made clothing, blankets and sweaters. All I am saying here is that the argument of today's middle class should be able to afford X, Y, Z, is seriously flawed. The majority of that stuff is not what the middle class had. They had far, far less. It sucked, actually. Todays middle class wants to be wrapped up in a warm blanket of luxury.

None of this would have happened if Trump respected the middle working class and lowered our taxes. Instead he increased taxes thru the 2018 Tax Reform, SALT - took away personal deductions and limited property and state deduction to $10k. He started this mess. He gave permanent tax cuts to the rich. He needs to prove he has our back by lowering taxes for middle class and provide universal healthcare not tied to employment- Medicare for all at any age, its getting value back for our taxes.

The middle class became reality for the average worker in the Midwest Industrialized States shortly after WWII, an oppurtunity for many non college educated folks. It continued to grow in the industrialized areas for 50 years before it began declining in the late 90"s. Today there is a significant decline in highly paid industrial jobs and they are replaced by the service industry. The service industry has become the go to for employment for the majority and unfortuantley those average wages are considered basic, with exception of course for high level professional, technical, financial and senior management positions. For the average worker our society is experiencing a rotation from industrial to service. We are moving into a polarized society. Thank you Michael, your spot on!

A big part of the problem is the middle class living above their means. Going into debt on completely unnecessary items/trips/cars/dining out/etc is just plain foolish. Finances are just like life, you can lie/pretend for so long but the truth will eventually come out. Your main goal in life should be to live well below your means and save/invest the difference but that holds absolutely no appeal to people today. They would rather pretend to be wealthier than they are even if it costs them everything.

As a teenager, I developed a profound fear of running out of money in my senior years. (I won't explain here, but there were specific reasons I developed this fear.) So I always worked full-time-plus, lived very frugally, and saved and invested aggressively and consistently. I never had a job with a great salary or worked for a company that offered a pension or 401(k). I was bemused by those around me who spent freely, splurged frequently, and would never consider owning a vehicle as old as mine or purchasing used items like I did instead of new. I'm now 66 and retired with zero debt and a net worth of $13.5+ million (in brokerage accounts and mortgage-free rental properties). It can be done, but one has to start very early and make significant sacrifices throughout the decades.
