Hm im not sure whether slstatus is better and more efficient than dwmblocks. I mean for dwmblocks you have to write all the scripts yourself but you can choose individual update times and you can set update signals. For example there is no point of updating the volume every second, instead with dwmblocks you can just tell it to refresh the number whenever you hit your volume keybinding.

so apparently there are several arleady, Morpheus uses the suckless core utils instead of busy box, but you could also check out Sabotage linux

old video but wanted to comment that it's easier to just use the vol_perc function instead of running a shell script. on linux the /dev/mixer* device probably doesn't by default so you'll need to load the snd_mixer_oss kernel module so that's emulated (make sure it's loaded at boot time or when you plan to slstatus). after that you can just pass /dev/mixer_?_ to the vol_perc function on your config.h and voilà, audio status polling without shell scripting.

sorry can you help me actually activate this bar? In my i3 config, where do I place the path of this bar? A bit confused. I placed it in under bar replacing i3blocks but when I do, the slstatus bar loads but none of the CPU or RAM is shown even if I did sudo make clean && sudo make install. Thanks

You could just edit the source to make it display raw values. To calculate the percentage used, the raw used value must be there somewhere

There is a patch for dwm called statuscmd , which allows click functions. But you have to script your own Status Monitor, or add it to slstatus

We do Month Day Year because when sorting in a file manager or any kind of list, it makes sense to put all the months together.

I feel like you are better of wrighting your own statusbar in C since slstatus will almost definitly use more ram since It has all the extra functions that you never use.

If you're so damn worried about a few kB of RAM maybe just don't use a statusbar. The difference doesn't matter anyway because the virtual RAM allocated by the OS will be the same.

I think the American date format is month-day-year? day-month-year is the default human readable in Australia at least and we take a lot from Europe. Year-month-day would get your audience real horny though something to consider :')
