He not only has to keep clean. He has to quit sabotaging himself and quit making excuses. He now has to believe in himself that if trys hard and is successful that it is okay. Many of them when they get clean have a difficult time believing it is okay to do well and be successful if they work hard. Because they are used to being in the shit pile.
