I’m 68 years old and I went to my first concert in 1969 when I was 13. Madison Square Garden. Opening act was Fleetwood Mac (early version of the band), then Grand Fund Railroad and then before the headliner, who we all came to see, they brought out a “new comedian to do 10 minutes”… Richard Pryor. Then the headliner Sly and the Family Stone. I’ve not been the same since

Started learning guitar at 13. Within a year I learned who Jimi Hendrix, Sly Stone and Otis Redding were. By age 16 they had become my three favorite musicians, in said order. 40 yrs later and they still are my all-time faves. There's great music and musicians and songwriters out there (past thru present).... but they don't move me like these three have moved me. I wouldn't complain if ya did all 12 min of Dance To The Medley. Graham Central Station is definitely Family Stone influenced. Be well.

Sly and the Family Stone played a big role in turning this rock and metal fan on to soul and funk, and I will always be grateful to them for that fact! I loved their "Stand" album, but when I heard "There's A Riot Goin' On," that was an even deeper level of funk, and it blew my mind! Sly and the band were the gateway for me into Earth, Wind, & Fire, Parliament-Funkadelic, and so much other great soul and funk!

That show was a variety show, with something for every age group. Jugglers, Opera singers Broadway and movie stars, and of course for the teenagers, either Rock groups /solo artists, or Motown and R&B artists. I miss those days. I get so nostalgic for an era gone forever. Thank goodness for video. Now I'm 68 years old and thinking of my younger years, just as everyone does as they age. God Bless you fellas

my parents played Sly, when i was a wee ladd and the bass player in me was born. but what really caught my eye later was the mix of black and white musicians in the same band. what a statement. you don’t even have to say anything, even though his lyrics are genius, and it sends a message of anyone can get along. it inspired the two tone ska movement in the 80’s in england where bands like THE SPECIALS had eight people in there band and equal number of white and black. and they confront that straight on in there lyrics. unite not fight
