This is one of those songs from my young adult life I NEVER get tired of. To Quote Phil Collins - I'm a drummer that sings a little. :)

This song was used by an 80's cop show called Miami Vice. You cannot get more Core 80's than "In The Air Tonight" and yet it transcends time very well. Phil Colins was the soundtrack of the 80's beyond this song.

One of the best songs ever performed. Everyone just waits for those drums. This was back when singers actually sang, so their voice always sounded the same on stage as they did on the radio. To play the drums as he does, and do do it perfectly as he sings perfectly is sheer talent. It's heartbreaking to see his health failing as it is.

I love Wifey's reactions. She was like, "Hey, don't pause this yet." She was just SO into it at that point. I watch all these reactions to this video just to watch the people discover Phil does the drums. I grew up with this song and it didn't hit me until I found this video it hit me like a ton of bricks just HOW talented is on it. Going down that rabbit hole has been a fun ride.

I’ve watched this so many times. People, in the beginning, are so ready for it to get going. Then it starts and they are mesmerized by his voice. Then the drum drop at the end blows them away. Perfect. I heard this song the first time on Miami Vice but this performance is so much more incredible. I was a young adult when Collin’s first came on the scene so it seems natural to watch him drum and sing at the same time. Just like Henley and the Eagles. Roger Taylor in Queen. David Grohl from Foo Fighters started out as a drummer. Karen Carpenter. Collin is an incredible performer. Wonder how many people know he’s also actor Lily Collin’s (Emily in Paris) dad?

It is fun to watch people see Phil get on the drums, for the first time. The guitar player with the long white beard, they show head shots of, is Leland Sklar. He is probably the most heard, least seen bassist out there. Phil and Genesis have a lot of music between them. If you are looking for a fun Genesis song then check out "Land of Confusion". It's one of my favorites. A note on playing drums all ones life. Drums are hard on the body. Actually an occupational hazard, due to what the repetitive vibrations do to your joints. I believe Phil and Neil Peart were suffering from the effects.
@loraelstad89412 сағат бұрын

That bassist with his foot-and-a-half-long gray beard is Leland Sklar and has been one of the most instantly recognizable sessions musicians on stage or in videos for decades. He has played with the Wolfgang Band & then with James Taylor & Carole King as part of Taylors backing band, and many other notables like Willie Nelson & Nils Lofgren. Most folks don't know his name, but they do recognize him!

This is from the 2007 Genesis Tour. Phil Collins's health issues began with a spinal injury in 2007 that damaged the vertebrae in his upper neck. Phil Collins is in a wheel chair he is unable to play drums and walks with a stick or uses a wheelchair. In 2022, he appeared with his band at the O2 Arena in London, at a gig billed as Genesis’s last ever show. Collins appeared on stage in a wheelchair to sing and play tambourine, as he joked that he’d have to get “a real job now”.

Phil is a 'Prog Rock' God having played with Genesis from the early 70s. You gotta check out his live Genesis dual drumming with Chester Thompson. Checkout the live Rome open air gig in 2007 in front of half a million people it is insane. It is amazing so many have never heard of Phil before along with Genesis he has sold over 300 million albums! yes 300 million! He took over from another legend Peter Gabriel as lead singer in 1975. Again checkout the live old Genesis medley of In The Cage/Cinema Show/ Dukes Travels/Afterglow it is off the charts!

There is a 5 min 48 sec interview on KZbin about In the Air Tonight. Phil doesn't know what the song is about. He just wrote the song while angry. His wife told him if he went on tour her and the kids would be gone when he got back. Has nothing to do with affairs. Anyways his ex is mad at him because she feels he is capitalizing on their divorce. There are other interviews about this song and I've never heard Phil talk about any affairs.
