I came home from the Vietnam War in August of 1969. This song was just released at that time and I loved it. I went home to Pennsylvania, picked up my wife and we drove all across the USA to my stateside duty station in San Francisco... the home city of Sly & The Family Stone. Every A.M. station was playing this song on our car radio all across the USA. I bet we heard that song about 100 times on that 8-day drive from Harrisburg to San Francisco. And since I had just come home from the war... my wife and I indeed had a "hot time" in that 1969 summertime...!!!

Ah the summers of the 60's. What it must have been like to be a kid, teenager. Working wiping down tables and serving fries, burgers, ice cream cones and hot dogs, etc. Girls, cars, beaches, good times! This coming from a millennial, stuck in the fast-paced digital age. Better days! And great music then too! Fun times in the summertime! Indeed!

@@jimcavanaugh8838Y'all didn't have FM 📻 radio. Than to one of my elder brothers, he had a HARMON KARDON AM/FM setup. Big on Sly Stone, Motown, Stax, James Brown & 2 new groups showed up then called the J5 &...LED ZEPPELIN!

One of my favorite things about Sly and the Family Stone is the way they'd each take a line themselves every now and then. You can hear an example in the chorus. The bass singer, Larry Graham, would go on to have quite a solo career in the mid 70s into the 80s.

This song and others like it from that era are immortal. Even when the founding generation that grooved to this classic when it was new will be long gone, a new one will rediscover this magic all over again.

I'm 71, which means I was born a year later in 1953....they can bash boomers if they want but we made real music, fought against dishonesty and corruption, war and the nukes, equality form Blacks, migrant workers, women, animals and Mother Earth. I still listen to my rock n roll, and still fight for the same groups (including myself). Get up and dance. Peace.

This cut was so far ahead of its time. It made my feet move then and still does now. I can't help singing along! What a treasure of a group of musicians. Just letting the talent flow with nothing in the way. It all sounds like they just recorded it last night. I can just smell and feel the 70s when i hear this.

Take it from a "came of age in the 60s" Valley Boy, this is the song to play when you're cruisin' through Topanga Canyon on your way to Will Rogers. Follow it up with the theme from A summer Place. Roll down the window and just let the sun and wind fill your hair.
