I play this song almost every day in the physical therapy gym and it always makes me cry! I had a stroke four months ago and was paralyzed on my left side. So when my therapists tell me to STAND! I put this song on and then I can do it, with tears streaming down my face! I love sharing this song with everyone else, too! We are all trying hard to stand! I'm in a rehab hospital right now and this song is very powerful! ❤️💪🏼💪🏼

Our minds and bodies are amazingly-fragile, yet amazingly-RESILIENT! Our brains have a type of plasticity that cannot be beaten. I acknowledge your struggles, your losses, your efforts, your accomplishments, and your VICTORIES. Do whatever you can to encourage the innate neuroplasticity that is in dynamic action, now and always. This song is a great piece of inspiration to me, as well - and also within the exact same environment as you're in - when I had to relearn how to walk [and talk], years ago. Your post hits-home in a completely unexpected way today. Thank you for sharing - and while there may be a few plateaus, there will always be an ongoing recovery-process which will surprise you.

They were never on Motown. I was a young teen when this album came out, so I remember. Peace & Love!

But this is not a motown group.

They recorded for EPIC RECORDS but the Motown "philosophy" of having a story behind your song is so evident here. S*#t, everyone has a story to tell. Getting it across lyrically, musically and forcefully enough to hook into the soul of the listener is the artists' challenge. Job well done Sly and all else involved. Now can all of us everyday people just listen up?

Motown was in Detroit. Sly and the Family Stone were a San Francisco group and Sly is from Texas. Sly never recorded for Motown and he never played Motown music. Sly was a mix of funk, soul, r n' b and psychedelic flavors. Sly was never a Motown guy. He was more in tune w Clinton and P Funk than with Gaye and Cooke.

An anthem for a lot of us! ✌🌹👍🍧 So grateful that I came of age at a time that the music spoke of the times. I am blessed!

I'm mo say it 1 mo ginn, STAND is the funkiest break-down of all time, in our house when Sly said, EVERYBODY!, for the final time!, you had to stop what you were doing, what ever it was and bust the best moves you had and as hard as you could, for the remainder of that song, my whole Family even my Mom's would be bustin it, that is what is called " The funky break-down ", til this very day, if I hear STAND, I will continue to stop what I'm doing for?, The funkiest break-down of all time, Thank you Sly and the Family Stone, yous were way ahead of your time!, we are not to judge your personal life, you gave us your life through the music, BLESS YOU SLY, no SLY, no Family stone either!💛
