ZackRobot yeah. Mashing by hand would never be precise enough. These are done with scripts and tools to generate the exact inputs needed each frame.
@pannenkoek20129 жыл бұрын
DatPags The inputs (besides A) were as follows: (1) B + directional input into wall (2) no input (3) no input (4) no input then repeat This is the most efficient way to bring up speed up the elevator. Also, once I did a couple iterations, I simply used TASEditor to copy and paste it a bunch of times.

@pannenkoek20129 жыл бұрын
anubertiergamer This is not right. For example, Dire Dire Docks has no A presses. You should never add up half A presses, since that's not how they work. You're supposed to round them up or down before summing up numbers, and in this case we round them down.

@renakunisaki9 жыл бұрын
Benedani anyway, should be possible to use an external program (like in the experimental videos using hacks) to display it without affecting the game.
@pannenkoek20129 жыл бұрын
Benedani I don't think it breaks the TAS if you do it right. To have the speedometer, I'm actually using a hacked ROM with that displayed. I originally TASed this on the original ROM, so to convert it to the hacked ROM without desyncing, I also hacked the RNG and Global Timer variables to be identical to what they had been on the original TAS.

@pannenkoek20129 жыл бұрын
randomviewer896 You're right, I only had 2 speed to spare. The core problem was the clip through the wall to the second elevator hallway. If I tried to do this clip with too much speed, I'd lose all my speed. So I kept trying to clip through with just enough speed to make it work, and eventually I got it to work. Then I had to be super conservative with my speed!
See, your first 'advantage' does not speak to those who actually use 0.5 A press, and have to deal with the consequences, so is of no value. The low-level details of what happens in the 0.5 A press are not, and should not be, the concern of the user. They are the concern of the 0.5 A press-designer. If the 0.5 A press-designer intends for user's 0.5 A press being negative having certain consequences, then, obviously, it is on the 0.5 A press-designer to make a 0.5 A press-check after the 0.5 A press has been acquired to check if it is negative. If the 0.5 A press-designer intends for the user's 0.5 A press being blank having certain consequences, then it is on the 0.5 A press-design to make a 0.5 A press-check after the 0.5 A press has been acquired to check if it is blank. So you're saying that your opinion is "reasonable" while mine is not?
@Twentydragon9 жыл бұрын
Doesn't the "M" stand in for the minus sign in this case because Mario's speed here is backwards? I believe something similar happens on the rare occasion one's life counter becomes glitched and has an "M" in front of it. The "M" stands in for the "−", resulting in "higher" numbers as you fall of cliffs but "lower" numbers when you collect 1-ups.
@1ted599 жыл бұрын
Yeah M is minus, you can get M25 lives on Japanese by getting 1000 coins.

How do you do a 0.5 press?
@mariophreak9 жыл бұрын
Matthew Samar have it held when you enter the level
@pannenkoek20129 жыл бұрын
Matthew Samar From the description: "If you're wondering about the half A press, read this before commenting to ask why. I use a special notation that allows for half A presses. Specifically, if you enter a level already holding the A button, then that A press only counts as half. It's actually pretty important to distinguish between the A button being PRESSED and the A button being HELD. While pressing A allows Mario to execute several kinds of jumps, the holding of A allows Mario to swim in water, do little kicks up slopes, grab the owl, and twirl slowly. So if a star requires the A button to be held, the pressing of the A button could have been done at some point in the past, and just held until that moment. For instance, let's say there are two stars: one that requires the A button to be pressed (x1 A presses), and another that only requires the A button to be held (0.5 A presses). Individually, these stars would both require a full A press. But if these stars were collected one after the other, then the A button could be pressed during the former, and held all the way through to the next star to be used in the latter. In this manner, these stars together would only use 1 A press, whereas they would take 2 A presses if done individually. So during a 120 star run, you would round these half A presses down, but on a star-by-star basis you would round them up."

"need 236+ speed to launch to star platform" you had less...
@pannenkoek20129 жыл бұрын
Benedani Well, I meant in magnitude. I had 238, which was 2 speed more than the bare minimum. I mean, I could have written that I needed M236- speed, but that just doesn't look right.
@renakunisaki9 жыл бұрын
pannenkoek2012 negative speed is a tricky concept anyway. In real life there's no such thing (you can't move less than zero units in some positive amount of time); the game just combines speed and direction into the same variable (using sign to indicate if the direction is the same as Mario's facing or the opposite). Makes things a bit confusing!
@1ted599 жыл бұрын
Speed is a vector anyways, so 236+ speed is correct.
@frogmin79947 жыл бұрын
Obligatory comment on how it's still one button press because letting the button go doesn't count as a part of pressing a button.
