I'm guessing this is a dumb question, but could this lead to wrong warping?

It actually almost does! On the US version of Wii VC, null pointer exceptions simply get skipped. As a result, the "destination" field of the teleporter you use (which is supposed to be the ID of a 'warp node' that actually has the destination information) ends up getting used as the map Mario gets sent to, since that's the last thing that was in the relevant register. The two teleporters present allow Mario to attempt to warp to either Wet Dry World (coincidentally the same place) or Jolly Roger Bay. When you do this, you can actually make it to the star select screen, which is fully functional. Unfortunately, Wii VC then crashes for real upon trying to actually load into the new map. However, nim discovered that if Mario's distance from the camera is just right, it's possible to attempt to send Mario to the credits with this! He's still looking into whether or not it's possible to avoid the crashes that happen when doing that, so for now it's unclear if credits warp is actually achievable on that version.
