Hello George...just an update on the radio: I received the radio from Amazon today and it now comes with a 9 foot wire antenna with a brass spring loop on one end and an alligator clip for clipping on the expandable antenna on the other end. It is better than described!!

a handy pocket radio that still does the basics. No NOAA in Australia but still handy with an external antenna.👍

@@Mikey-ym6ok as far as I know, nothing. We have a local AM radio channel 666AM that is our emergency channel for bushfires or floods etc. We used to dial a free number for the time or weather but they stopped that afew years ago. We also have local state emergency support for damaged houses in storms etc and also have WICEN which is basically ham radio volunteers help in storms or local events like car rally etc but no national radio frequency like NOAA here.🤷♂️

I have the HRD-701 it is the digital version of this under a different name, its very sensitive on FM and AM. It is a great unit and sounds very good for its size, very loud and no clipping from the amp. It was under $50 AUD. on mine the short wave goes from I think 4.8 - 21.8 Mhz and FM can go down to around 64-108 depending on how you set it up.

Other than the antenna, what makes a shortwave radio more able to get a good signal? Us ignorant folks just often think, "well the one that costs more", but what do we REALLY look for?

I have say i found this through a youtube "recommended" gadgets video. I gotta saythe stuff thry recommend these days is expensive garbage, eventually with some snooping i vame across this. @@Iridium242 Nice! I didn't know you could pick up needles from there, but I think thought that's what I heard on the NOAA channel. I used to be able to hear that from Newberry. I had one of the realistic brand weather cubes from the '80s and used to hear it from there.

Hello George. Really enjoy your videos. I'm definitely going to get this little AM-FM-SW radio. I recently purchased a Radio Shack DX-150B shortwave radio. I did watch your video on making an antenna for a shortwave radio. I have a technical question for you regarding an antenna....I live in a townhome community in Arizona. As such, there are restrictions as to what we can place on exterior walls or running wires through a window into one of the Association trees. My building is very similar to your home in terms of a stucco exterior and a clay tile roof. I was thinking of running the antenna wire through an interior wall up into the attic crawlspace. There I could run a wire about 40 feet. Will I still be able to get the same reception indoors in the attic as I would running a wire outside into a tree? Thanks in advance for any suggestions you may have.
@Iridium2422 жыл бұрын
Heck yeah, that will work, matter of fact there are hams that run attic antennas with great success in HOA communities, so it should work great for receive!
