as an umpire, i am absolutely stunned as to how rare bunting has become. of course, it is a skill that must be taught (properly) and practiced until mastered. but in these days of infielders playing back within a few feet of the outfield grass, any bunt that is out of range of the pitcher or catcher is an easy stroll to first base. i did see a video recently of a d-III baseball team that bunted safely something like six or seven times in a row until the defense finally moved in. that may be a bit extreme, but somewhere sometime a great coach said something to the effect of "we'll keep running the same play until it doesn't work any more."

I’ve been saying for years now that not only did the Angels need to get a new manager, we literally need a whole new coaching staff. We had Matt Duffy and he had plenty of playing time but never hit as well as he is hitting now. Same thing with Brandon Marsh, dude was a straight up dud with us but doing a whole lot better with the Phillies. Why does Arte Moreno hate baseball so much 😂

This is why I like the runner at second base in extras rule (I know that wasn't the situation here)....it leads to more 'small ball' and players working on advancing runners and manufacturing runs vs trying to hit homeruns all day. This was fun to watch.

@@gregjensen370 the stat boys are the reason that when the 2Bman moves into RF and the 3Bman is standing at SS that hitters still try to pull the ball to the left side, rather than take their free base. Bunting would've eliminated the shift - without a rule change.
