why in the wide wide world of sports would one build a roller block with a flat tappet cam???????????????????????????????????????????

It was a budget thing . Flat tappet technology has come a long way from what it used to be . They have EDM flat tappet lifter that work really well and last just as long as a roller lifter . But I agree with roller cam being superior to flat tappet .

@@TheFormula350 I’ve had great success with them . I think they get a bad reputation because people just don’t know how to properly break them in. I see a lot of people often break the cam in with some really heavy springs and that tends to lower the success rate of the break in . What I do ,is always break the cam in with a soft spring and after the break in , I install the dual valve springs or whatever stiffer spring the cam requires . I have a client that I build a flat tappet 327 sbc and his had that thing for over 4 years now .

flat tappets do not last because of the low amount of zinc in the newer oils

@@wabblestick at the same time we have edm lifter now that help with friction . They last just as much as a roller lifter .
