Kiddo.......never seen your channel before , but I really dug it. It reminded me so much of the 80's and 90's when I was down in my buddies shop just being the helping hand. Plenty of beers being drank , wrenches being thrown , BS'n , laughing our asses off , sometimes loud music , lots of swear words , and hurdles we had to cross. And not only would I never take any of those nights back....i want to get back into doing it again. I freakin' miss it!

One thing i noticed was headers its in my humble opinion easiest to install them right along with the mounts and bellhousing actualy before and then set everything down worked out like that on the bbc i have done anyway thanks for the vids nice job fellas

That flexplate needs to be externally balanced for a 454.

I put a 454 into a 78 nova with a 4 speed. The 4 speed was already in and I had to notch the cross member 3" to clear the oil pan to line up the transmission input shaft with the flywheel and then push it back and bolt it up. It worked out well because now I can remove the oil pan with the engine in the car for whatever reason.

Torque converter bolts? I think those are flex plate bolts but small block flex plate not going to woron a big block.. Did it..? But you knew that.. My bad I should have read the comments 1st... At least you guys had fun and got some good ole hands on. That says a lot In my book. Outstanding job Gear heads . That DeCreases the learning curve quite a bit.. Today s "Metro Guy" cant change a tire. Or even their own oil.. I call that The Pussification of Man and its killing America. Cool that you didn’t toss the peanut port heads right away, they’re obviously not the best big block head, but with the right cam they will make a bunch of low rpm torque, which is what they were designed for, towing and hauling. Low and mid range torque is what you want on the street anyway. I wouldn’t run them forever, but there’s certainly nothing wrong with them when dirt cheap fun is the goal. 👍🏻

That was my thought. I wanted to get the engine in the car with the least amount of money and I need the Elco to be my truck for a while so it made sense. This thing spins tire forever and I am very happy with it. I did get a new set of heads but I want to have some fun in this for a while before I tear it apart again.

What torque converter did you go with? I’m about to put a crate 454 H.O. in a 77 Malibu with a tightish converter. It has the 6 qt pan. Like your video.

So now your going to have to pull the transmission to change the flex plate unless that was a 400 small block. If it was a 350 I hope the motor needs to be 396 or 427 they are internally balanced 400 and 454 are externally balanced you will have a hell of a vibration. Just saying

I hope that’s an internally balanced 454 or you ruined it putting on the small block flex plate. Why exactly did you remove the transmission? The bell housing is the same on the big block.
