I don't know about those losses. Turning around before they got in trouble shows a rare level of intelligence. Nobody sank their boat. Nobody had to be rescued. The Coast Guard didn't have to be called out and nobodies insurance company had to get involved. These are all wins in my book.

I think you need to reevaluate the U-turn =loss rule. To me, the boaters won by not endangering themselves. I think if you take a hit, get air or similar, then turn around it should be a loss. Just my opinion of course

I think a captain gets some consolation points if they are smart enough to recognize they are in trouble and turn around before trouble actually happens. It is still a pretty big loss for a captain to actually take a boat out there on a day like this in the first place given what the forecast was surely calling for.

They make it look so easy cuz if you can go out and do it in a 13' you sure can't go out and do it in a 17'. And they have been doing it a long time. I know exactly what their boat can handle, and they know how to handle it.

That first boat made it out of the inlet before turning around. Not only that they kept their bow rider dry. Definitely a win. If all your doing is going out the inlet to check it and then turn around you shouldn’t get dinged.

No matter what you call, BG, there are whiners - rules are rules, if you turn around, automatic loss. If you have a kid in the bow with no PFD, auto loss, etc.
