You are one smart dude!! That is really a neat build for saving a lot of thumb and wrist injury. The wrong way is to use a direct drive drill . When the engine starts, it will take the drill beyond the rpm and thumb and hand with it. Thankyou for thinking safety.

But how does it clutch to freewheel? Does the started gear have a one way deal inside the bearing looking part? Or does it just cam out like the bendix normally does when using a starter like with the spring and all..?
@timthetoolman45752 жыл бұрын
It has a “one way deal inside” that allows the tool to free wheel once the engine starts rather than ripping the tool from your hands. You can then just pull the tool off the engine
@daveoldaker55893 жыл бұрын
Why not cut the extension in half & weld each to both ends so ya won't need to sacrifice a large socket?
@timthetoolman45753 жыл бұрын
The large socket is welded to outer most edge of the drive mechanism. The outer most edge spins separate from the inner mechanism the extension is welded to so when the engine starts.... the inner can spin separately from the outer edge.
@timthetoolman45753 жыл бұрын
FYI, I bought the large socket at harbor freight to keep the cost low. It was less than $ 5.00
@daveoldaker55893 жыл бұрын
I believe I'm correct in that the gear end is independent from the other end right? ... The gear will free-wheel in one direction & engage in the other? ... So welding half to the gear & half to the other end does the same thing?

BTW I'm not concerned with what the large socket cost ... I just thought my thinking was correct & wanted to see if it was ... This video I found shows it the way I was saying ... kzbin.info/www/bejne/qmK2eoSIgsRjpKM

Yes, just buy a ratcheting adapter for a breaker bar, out of the box it is ready to use, no welding or anything else... Pretty simple to use and no hassle of welding a bunch of crap together, lol. You can do a search on KZbin and find videos, if you don't know what it looks like...

Welding the washer on to retain the coil of wire is not necessary as the extension is already welded at the gear end.
@timthetoolman45753 жыл бұрын
The washer is just tacked in place to keep the coiled wire in place. Yes, the weld at the gear is where the main bond is made.
@luckyPiston3 жыл бұрын
@@timthetoolman4575 Right and once the main weld is made there is no longer a requirement for the coiled up wire to keep things lined up so instead of welding it in with a washer, remove it altogether. If your weld is any good at all u shouldnt need a coiled up wire to stabilize the 6" extension ?
