Small hosta propagation

Can you do this over the winter or in the fall? I have a ridiculous amount of hastas and I'd like to cover my hillside with them!

Divide them in spring or autumn. Split large clumps in half with a spade. You can make smaller divisions but they will take longer to mature. Don't be greedy, take your time. In winter you will not see what to divide I guess.
